Minister For Defense (Sweden)
The Minister for Defence of Sweden (; formal title: ) is a member of the Government of Sweden (). The Minister heads the Ministry of Defence (Sweden), Ministry for Defence and is appointed and dismissed at the sole discretion of the Prime Minister of Sweden, prime minister of Sweden. Although the Minister for Defence heads the Ministry of Defence, the Minister cannot as a general rule issue directives in his/her own right to the Supreme Commander of the Swedish Armed Forces, Supreme Commander or any other agency director-general in the defence portfolio due to the Ministerstyre, Swedish prohibition on ministerial rule, unless such authority is provided for in specific statutory provisions. The Ministry of Defence () is a Ministry (government department), ministry in the Government of Sweden responsible for policies related to Defense (military), national defence and civil defence. The ministry is currently headed by the Minister for Defence, Pål Jonson of the Moderate Party. History The ministry was established on 1 July 1920 when the Ministry of Land Defence and the Ministry for Naval Affairs (Sweden), Ministry for Naval Affairs was merged into one ministry. It's located at Jakobsgatan, Jakobsgatan 9 at Gustav Adolfs torg, Stockholm, Gustaf Adolfs torg in Stockholm, where it has been located since 1966.
