Minister Of State (Ceylon)
The Minister of State was a cabinet ministry of the Government of Ceylon that existed from 25 March 1965 to 29 May 1970 during the third Dudley Senanayake cabinet. The post was considered as the senior most cabinet minister following after the prime minister. The post was unique, J. R. Jayewardene who was deputy leader of the United National Party and Senanayake depending heavily on Jayewardene who had held senior cabinet positions such as the first Minister of Finance. With the formation of the national government in March 1965, Jayewardene was appointed Minister of State and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Defence and External Affairs and was a '' de facto'' Deputy Prime Minister. As Minister of State, Jayewardene focused on economic development and managing the foreign exchange shortages faced by Ceylon with large ministry budget allocation. Minister For Internal Security (Ceylon)
The Minister for Internal Security was a cabinet ministry of the Government of Ceylon that existed from January 1960 to March 1960 during the caretaker government of W. Dahanayake. Senator Layard Jayasundera served as Minister for Internal Security and Sydney de Zoysa served as Permanent Secretary. The Ministry had under it the Ceylon Police Force which at the time was tasked with internal security duties and had prior to January 1960, been under the Minister of Justice briefly after the Bandaranaike assassination. The police had traditionally been under the Ministry of External Affairs and Defence, which was a portfolio retained by the Prime Minister of Ceylon. National Zoological Gardens Of Sri Lanka
National Zoological Gardens of Sri Lanka (also called Dehiwala Zoo or Colombo Zoo) is a zoological garden in Dehiwala, Sri Lanka, founded in 1936. It is home to various birds, mammals, reptiles, fish and amphibians. The zoo not only exhibits animals from Sri Lanka, but also from across Asia and other parts of the globe. As of 2005, the zoo has 3,000 animals and 350 species. The annual revenue is LKR 40 million. The Dehiwala Zoo exchanges its residents with other zoological gardens for breeding purposes. In June 2021, a lion named Thor which had been living in the zoo since 2012 reportedly tested positive for COVID-19. Maha Amarasinghege Anandatissa de Alwis (21 August 1919 – 22 August 1996) was a Sri Lankan journalist, marketer and politician. He was the Speaker of the National State Assembly, a Minister of State and the fourth Governor of the North Western Province of Sri Lanka. He was a member of the United National Party. Early career De Alwis started his career as a journalist, serving as a war-time reporter. Later he served as private secretary to Sir John Kotelawala. He thereafter moved into advertising, working as a copy writer with Reggie Candappa at Grant McCann Erickson. He then left Grants to join J. Walter Thompson. He left J.
