Rwanda, officially the Republic of Rwanda, is a landlocked country in the Great Rift Valley of East Africa, where the African Great Lakes region and Southeast Africa converge. Théodore Sindikubwabo
Théodore Sindikubwabo (1928 – March 1998) was a Rwandan politician who was the interim President of Rwanda during the Rwandan genocide, from 8 April to 19 July 1994. Prior to that, he was President of the Rwandan legislature National Development Council from 1988–1994. Sindikubwabo was born in Zivu, Shyanda village, in the town of Butare, formerly called Astrida in Rwanda-Urundi Territory, and currently the southern province of Rwanda. His parents Zacharrie Semutwa and Judithe Nyiramanda were both from the Tutsi ethnic group. Sindikubwabo was educated as a physician and was Minister of Health in the administration of President Kayibanda. Brigadier General Juvenal Marizamunda (born 2 December 1965), is a Rwandan politician and military officer who serves as Minister of Defense in the Rwandan cabinet since 6 June 2023. Before that, from April 2021 until June 2023, he served as the Commissioner General for Rwanda Correctional Service (RCS). Prior to that, from June 2014 until April 2021, he was the Deputy Commissioner General of Rwanda National Police in charge of Administration and Finance. Major General Albert Murasira (born 11 November 1962), is a Rwandan politician and a retired military officer who served as Minister of Defense in the Rwandan cabinet, from 18 October 2018, until 6 June 2023. James Kabarebe
James Kabarebe (born 1959) is a Rwandan retired military officer who serves as Minister of State for Regional Integration in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Kabarebe was a key figure in both the First Congo War and the Second Congo War as a commanding officer. From 10 April 2010 until 18 October 2018, he was the Rwandan Minister of Defence. He served as a Rwandan Patriotic Army Commander and was an Alliance of Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Congo strategist. In his role of Minister of Defence he was accused of being the ''de facto'' leader of the March 23 Movement, a militia in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo. Marcel Gatsinzi ( ; 9 January 1948 – 7 March 2023) was a Rwandan soldier and politician, who was Minister of Disaster Management and Refugee Affairs from 2010 to 2013. Gatsinzi also served as Rwanda's Minister of Defence from 2002 to 2010. An ethnic Hutu from Butare, Gatsinzi was a member of the Rwandan Armed Forces (FAR), which was the national army prior to the takeover of Rwanda by the Rwandan Patriotic Front (RPF) during the 1994 Rwandan genocide. Emmanuel Habyarimana
Emmanuel Habyarimana (born Katanga Plateau) is a Rwandan politician and former military officer. Habyarimana, an ethnic Hutu, was a former member of the Rwandan Armed Force in the Hutu-dominated state of Juvénal Habyarimana. Following the successful conquest of Rwanda by the RPF, he joined the newly constituted Rwanda Defence Force and held the rank of colonel. In 1997, he was made Minister of State for Defence in the Rwandan government. In 2000, he became Rwanda's Minister of Defence, and was later sometime afterwards promoted to Brigadier-General. While serving in this position he played a significant part in Rwanda's actions in the Second Congo War. Pasteur Bizimungu (born April 1950) is a Rwandan politician who served as the third President of Rwanda, holding office from 19 July 1994 until 23 March 2000. Bizimungu had previously held several positions under President Juvenal Habyarimana throughout the 1980s. He joined the Tutsi-led Rwandan Patriotic Front (RPF) rebel group against Habyarimana in 1990 following the death of his brother seemingly under the orders of Habyarimana's government. Rwandan Patriotic Front
The Rwandan Patriotic Front (RPF–Inkotanyi; , FPR) is the ruling political party in Rwanda. The RPF was founded in December 1987 by Rwandan Tutsi in exile in Uganda because of the ethnic violence that had occurred during the Rwandan Hutu Revolution in 1959–1962. In 1990, the RPF started the Rwandan Civil War in an attempt to overthrow the government, which was dominated by Hutu. Later on, the Rwandan genocide occurred that ended on 4 July with the RPF conquest of the entire country. The RPF have ruled the country since then as a one-party state, and its current leader, Paul Kagame, became the president of Rwanda in 2000, and remains in office. Paul Kagame ( ; born 23 October 1957) is a Rwandan politician and former military officer who has been the President of Rwanda since 2000. He was previously a commander of the Rwandan Patriotic Front (RPF), a rebel armed force which invaded Rwanda in 1990.
