Mine Countermeasures Ship
A mine countermeasures vessel or MCMV is a type of naval ship designed for the location of and destruction of naval mines which combines the role of a minesweeper and minehunter in one hull. The term MCMV is also applied collectively to minehunters and minesweepers. Most modern MCMVs are designed to locate, identify, and neutralize or remove underwater mines. Any explosive device that is placed in or near water to damage or destroy ships, submarines, or other naval vessels is classified as a mine. They can pose a significant threat to naval operations, maritime trade, and coastal security. The primary purpose of a MCMV is to ensure safe passage for friendly naval and commercial vessels by clearing waterways, harbors, and shipping lanes of potential mine hazards. These vessels use various specialized technologies and techniques to accomplish their mission: # Mine Detection: MCMVs are equipped with a variety of sensors and sonar systems that can detect underwater mines. Uraga-class Mine Countermeasure Vessel
The ''Uraga'' class was a series of 2 mine countermeasure vessels for the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force. They were both built and commissioned in the 1990s. Development It was built as an alternative to JDS Hayase and JDS Sōya, as the class of ships combined the functions of both. Reflecting the experience of Hayase dispatched to the Persian Gulf, the function of the ship was improved, and the newly introduced air minesweeper (Mk.105) was introduced and acquired from the dock. A helicopter support function for performing air minesweeping was also required. As a result, they became considerably larger, and although they were finally made slightly smaller than originally planned to be 5,600 tons, the amount of wastewater is still doubled compared to 44MST. The construction of the name ship was approved for 29.7 billion yen in the 1994 plan, which is the latter half of the 2003 medium-term defense. The construction of the second ship was also approved in the next year's pl ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |

Tripartite-class Minehunter
The Tripartite class is a Ship class, class of minehunters developed from an agreement between the navies of Belgian Navy, Belgium, French Navy, France and Royal Netherlands Navy, the Netherlands. A total of 35 ships were constructed for the three navies. The class was constructed in the 1980s–1990s in all three countries, using a mix of minehunting, electrical and propulsion systems from the three member nations. In France, where they are known as the ''Éridan'' class they are primarily used as minehunters, but have been used for minesweeping and ammunition transport in Belgium and the Netherlands, where the Tripartites are known as the . In 1992, the Pakistan Navy acquired three vessels from France, one that was already built, one to be built in France and one built in France and Pakistan. Known as the ''Munsif'' class, all three are still in service. The Indonesian Navy acquired two minehunters in the 1990s from the Dutch to a modified design. Known as the ''Pulau Rengat'' c ... Katanpää-class Mine Countermeasure Vessel
''Katanpää''-class mine countermeasure vessels are a class of three multipurpose mine countermeasure vessels (MCMV) ordered by the Finnish Navy. The nearly 250 million euro contract was awarded to the Italian shipyard Intermarine S.p.A. in 2006. Initially, all three vessels were scheduled to be delivered by 2014 and the class was expected to achieve operational readiness by 2015, but there have been various delays and the last vessel was handed over to the Finnish Navy in November 2016. The ''Katanpää'' class is expected to remain in service until 2040–2042. Development and construction In its safety and defence policy report of 2004 the Finnish Government announced that, in addition to training mobile coastal troops and protecting sea traffic, the Finnish Navy would start focusing on developing its mine countermeasure capabilities. As a result a decision was made to retire the aging s and invest in a new mine countermeasure fleet, which would include minehunters and -swe ... Independence-class Littoral Combat Ship
The ''Independence'' class is a class of littoral combat ships built for the United States Navy. The hull design evolved from a project at Austal to design a high speed, cruise ship. That hull design evolved into the high-speed trimaran ferry and the ''Independence'' class was then proposed by General Dynamics and Austal as a contender for Navy plans to build a fleet of smaller, agile, multipurpose warships to operate nearshore in the littoral zone. Initially two ships were approved, to compete with Lockheed Martin's design. Despite initial plans to only build ships of the winner out of the two competing ''Independence'' or ''Freedom'' classes, in 2010 the Navy announced plans to order up to ten additional ships of each class, for a total 12 ships per class. In March 2016 the Navy announced their intention to order an additional two ships, increasing the order to 13 ships of each class. It was announced in early September 2016 that the first four vessels of the LCS progra ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |

Hunt-class Mine Countermeasures Vessel
The Hunt class is a class of thirteen mine countermeasure vessels of the Royal Navy. As built, they combined the separate roles of the traditional minesweeper and that of the active minehunter in one hull, but later modifications saw the removal of mine-sweeping equipment. They have a secondary role as offshore patrol vessels. Development Upon introduction in the early 1980s they were the largest warships ever built out of glass-reinforced plastic and were the last in operation to use the Napier Deltic diesel engine. All were built by Vosper Thornycroft in Woolston except and , which were built by Yarrow Shipbuilders Limited on the River Clyde. was the last ship of the class launched. Following the sale of and to the Greek Navy, the sale of and to the Lithuanian Navy and the decommissioning of , a contract to re-engine the remaining eight vessels was signed by BAE Systems in 2008, whereby the existing 30-year old Napier Deltic 9-59K power units were replaced by ... Bedok-class Mine Countermeasures Vessel
The ''Bedok'' class are mine countermeasures vessels of the Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN). They play an important role in the maritime security of Singapore, ensuring that the Singapore Strait and the sea lanes surrounding Singapore remain mine-free and open to international shipping. It is estimated that closure of Singapore's ports would result in direct trade losses amounting to more than US$1.2 billion daily, posing a serious threat to Singapore's economy. The four ships form the Sixth Flotilla of the RSN. Planning and acquisition The RSN first acquired mine countermeasures capabilities in 1975, when the United States Navy's and were re-activated by the RSN's engineers and technicians in California. These s were commissioned as RSS ''Jupiter'' and RSS ''Mercury'' respectively. RSS ''Jupiter'' was scrapped on 15 August 1986 and RSS ''Mercury'' was decommissioned on 31 March 1993.
