The Mindoro Disiplinados (stylized as Disipl-INA-dos), also known as the Oriental Mindoro Disiplinados, are a Filipino professional basketball team based in Mindoro island. The team primarily competes in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) as a member of the league's South Division. They are the lone team based in the Mimaropa region and play their home games at Sentrong Pangkabataan in Calapan, Oriental Mindoro. The team began play during the 2019–20 season, originally as the Mindoro Tamaraws. The franchise also competed in NBL–Pilipinas as the Mindoro Tamaraws Disiplinados during the 2021 Chairman's Cup. They also have a junior counterpart in the Mindoro Junior Disiplinados, which compete in the Junior MPBL. The Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) is a men's professional sports, professional basketball league in the Philippines. History Manny Pacquiao launched the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League on August 29, 2017, starting off as a semi-professional league. According to Pacquiao, the league is not intended to be a competitor to the Philippine Basketball Association, the country's top professional basketball league. The MPBL was intended to feature both a regional commercial and barangay-level league with teams on the commercial side to have a home locality in addition to a corporate sponsor. Basilan Steel
Basilan-BRT Peace Riders are a professional basketball team in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League. History The Basilan Steel was the fifth expansion team of the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League from Visayas and Mindanao. Then known as the Basilan Shooters Their application was accepted by the league in May 2018 who reasoned that they want to show the beauty of the team's home locality, Basilan, "thru basketball". They formally joined the MPBL on May 19, 2018, after the team entered into a contract with the league. They changed their name to the Basilan Steel by May 25, 2018. The 2022 MPBL season, known as the MPBL Mumbaki Season, was the fourth season of the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League. This season the MPBL announced their partnership with OKBet as their official betting partner. It started on February 21, 2015, as a nightly ambulant food stand in Divisoria, Manila operated by Walther Uzi Buenavista and Patricia Collantes. As of 2024, it has over 800 outlets and 1000 employees throughout the Philippines. History In 2015, 25-year old Walther Uzi Buenavista and his wife Patricia launched a food stand at the Tutuban Center night market in Manila selling shawarma wraps. Walther would make the pita bread while Patricia would help prepare the ingredients and recipe. The business was initially unsuccessful as daily sales were very low. The Pilipinas Super League (PSL) is a professional basketball league in the Philippines. History The Pilipinas Super League (PSL) was founded in December 2021 by former officials of another league; the Pilipinas VisMin Super Cup. It was established by former VisMin Cup CEO Rocky Chan and former COO Chelito Caro. Chan assumed the post of PSL President and Caro as the league commissioner. 2023 MPBL Season
The 2023 MPBL season is the ongoing fifth season of the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) and the second as a professional league. The regular season began on March 11, 2023 and will end on September 30, 2023. The playoffs are set to begin in October 2023. The league took two breaks during the regular season, during Holy Week and during the Philippines' co-hosting of the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup. This season features 29 teams, with five teams returning to the league alongside two expansion teams: the Negros Muscovados and the Quezon Huskers. The opening ceremonies took place at the Quezon Convention Center in Lucena, Quezon. The 2023 MPBL All-Star Game will be held at Bataan People's Center in Balanga, Bataan. 2021 MPBL Invitational
The 2021 MPBL Invitational, officially known as the Chooks-to-Go MPBL Invitational powered by TM for sponsorship reasons, was an invitational tournament that serves as the prelude to the 2022–23 MPBL season. It commenced on December 11, 2021 and ended on December 23, 2021. The tournament was also the first for the MPBL since it was granted professional status by the Games and Amusements Board. The Invitational was also the first professional sports event in the Philippines to allow live audiences since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in the country, with the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay, the venue for the tournament, only allowed to be at 50 percent capacity.
