Mind Games
Mind games (also power games or head games) are actions performed for reasons of psychological one-upmanship, often employing passive–aggressive behavior to specifically demoralize or dis-empower the thinking subject, making the aggressor look superior. It also describes the unconscious games played by people engaged in ulterior transactions of which they are not fully aware, and which transactional analysis considers to form a central element of social life all over the world. The first known use of the term "mind game" dates from 1963, and "head game" from 1977. Conscious one-upmanship In intimate relationships, mind games can be used to undermine one partner's belief in the validity of their own perceptions. Personal experience may be denied and driven from memory, and such abusive mind games may extend to the denial of the victim's reality, social undermining, and downplaying the importance of the other partner's concerns or perceptions. Mind Games (2001 Film)
''Mind Games'' was a one-off British crime drama broadcast on ITV on 6 January 2001, starring Fiona Shaw as the protagonist, Frances O'Neill, a former nun turned criminal profiler who is called in to investigate the horrific ritualistic murders of two middle-aged women. Written by Lynda La Plante and directed by Richard Standeven, the film gathered 6.91m viewers. The DVD of the film was released on 23 July 2007. In the United States, the film aired on PBS during the ''Lynda La Plante'' season, which also included broadcasts of ''Prime Suspect'', ''Trial & Retribution'' and '' Supply & Demand''. "Mind Games" is a song written and performed by John Lennon, released as a single in 1973 on Apple Records. It was the lead single for the album of the same name. The US single and album were released simultaneously on 29 October 1973. The UK single and album were issued simultaneously on 16 November 1973. In the US it peaked at No. 18 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100 and No. 10 on the '' Cashbox'' Top 100. In the UK it peaked at No. 26. Background This song, which was begun in 1969 and can be heard in the Beatles' ''Let It Be'' sessions, was originally titled "Make Love, Not War", a popular anti-war slogan at that time. Paul Lamb (musician)
Paul Lamb (born 9 July 1955, Blyth, Northumberland, England) is a British blues harmonica player and bandleader. He has had a four-decade long career as a blues harmonicist and bandleader. Biography Lamb started playing the harmonica during his childhood, inspired by Sonny Terry, and he was fortunate to meet and collaborate with him after beginning to perform in clubs by the age of fifteen. Lamb played only acoustic blues until about 1980. Lamb also played alongside his heroes such as Buddy Guy, Junior Wells, and Brownie McGhee. He formed the Blues Burglars with guitarist Johnny Whitehill in the early 1980s, a formation that eventually became Paul Lamb & the King Snakes. They released an eponymous album with Ace Records in 1990, followed by several others, each building both Lamb's personal reputation as a harmonica player and the band's prestige. ''Mind Games'' is the third solo studio album by English musician John Lennon. It was recorded at Record Plant Studios in New York in summer 1973. The album was released in the US on 29 October 1973 and in the UK on 16 November 1973. It was Lennon's first self-produced recording without help from Phil Spector. Like his previous album, the politically topical and somewhat abrasive ''Some Time in New York City'', ''Mind Games'' received mixed reviews upon release. It reached number 13 in the UK and number 9 in the US, where it was certified gold in both territories. The album was recorded while Lennon was having difficulties with US immigration and at the beginning of his 18-month separation from Yoko Ono. Mindgames (band)
Mindgames is a progressive rock band from Belgium. The band was founded in 1997 by Eric Vandormael (bass) and Bart Schram (vocals). After placing a few ads in music magazines they recruited Benny Petak (drums, percussion) and Tom Truyers (piano, keyboards). In 1999 as a four-piece they recorded a demo, featuring the songs ''Mental Argue'', ''Signs From The Sky'', and ''Dreamin' The Circus''. In 2000 Rudy Van Der Veken (guitars) joined, so completing the line-up of the band. The end of 2002 saw the release of their debut CD ''International Daylight'', an album that shows the strong influences on the band of Yes, Jethro Tull, Genesis and Frank Zappa. Later on ''International Daylight'' came to be distributed by the French label Musea Records. Thanks to this, the band received wider exposure and garnered favourable reviews internationally. The third season of the police procedural drama ''NCIS'' was originally broadcast between September 20, 2005, and May 16, 2006, on CBS. The third season opens in the aftermath of "Twilight", with the entire team in shock and Gibbs on a vendetta to seek revenge for Kate's murder. Matters are complicated by the intervention of Gibbs' former lover and new NCIS director Jenny Shepard, and Mossad officer Ziva David.
