Minakshi Datta
Minakshi Datta (Bengali: মীনাক্ষী দত্ত) is a Bengali educationist, writer, actor, translator and anthologist. An educator all her life, she is a widely recognized influence in the Kolkata and the New York literary and cultural circles. Married to fellow Bengali writer Jyotirmoy Datta, she is the mother of two children, Mallinath Datta, who was an IT professional, dramatist and filmmaker, and Kankabati Datta, who is an editor and a writer. Minakshi and Jyotirmoy Datta divide their time between Kolkata, India and Cherry Hill, New Jersey, USA.She also acted in a Bengali movie Banojyotsna directed by Dinen Gupta. Jyotirmoy Datta
Jyotirmoy Datta ( bn, জ্যোতির্ময় দত্ত, jotirmôe dôtto; born 1936) is a Bengali writer, journalist, poet, and an essayist. He worked for '' The Statesman'', Calcutta's oldest English-language daily, as feature writer, film critic, correspondent, and associate editor. He visited the University of Chicago as a lecturer, 1966–1968, and also did a residency at the University of Iowa. He has published 2 books of verse, several novels and collections of essays and short stories. Datta currently lives in Hillsborough Township, New Jersey, near New York City, where he works as an Editor for South Asia Journal. Buddhadeb Bosu
Buddhadeva Bose (; 1908–1974), also spelt Buddhadeb Bosu, was an Indian Bengali writer of the 20th century. Frequently referred to as a poet, he was a versatile writer who wrote novels, short stories, plays and essays in addition to poetry. He was an influential critic and editor of his time. He is recognised as one of the five poets who moved to introduce modernity into Bengali poetry. It is said that since Rabindranath Tagore, there has not been a more versatile talent in Bengali literature. Biography Bose studied English language and literature at the University of Dhaka. Rabindranath Tagore
Rabindranath Tagore (; bn, রবীন্দ্রনাথ ঠাকুর; 7 May 1861 – 7 August 1941) was a Bengali polymath who worked as a poet, writer, playwright, composer, philosopher, social reformer and painter. He reshaped Bengali literature and music as well as Indian art with Contextual Modernism in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Protiva Bose
Protiva Bose (also spelled Pratibha Basu; bn, প্রতিভা বসু) (March 13, 1915 – 13 October 2006) was a singer and one of the most prolific and widely read Bengali writers of novels, short stories, and essays. Biography She was born in a village near Dhaka in 1915 to Asutosh Shome and Sarajubala Shome. She was known as Ranu Shome before she married the Bengali writer, Buddhadev Bose in 1934. She had two daughters, Meenakshi Dutta and Damayanti Basu Singh, and a son, Suddhasil Bose, who died at the age of 42. One of her granddaughters, Kankabati Dutta, is also a well-known writer in Bengali. Bose was also a singer of popular songs. She was a pupil of Ustad Gul Mohammad Khan. Presidency University, Kolkata (formerly known as Presidency College, Kolkata) is a second major public state aided research university located in College Street, Kolkata. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan (; 5 September 1888 – 17 April 1975), natively Radhakrishnayya, was an Indian philosopher and statesman. He served as the 2nd President of India from 1962 to 1967. Fanny Parkes or Parks (née Frances Susanna Archer) (1794–1875) was a travel writer from Wales, known for her extensive journals about colonial India, where she lived for 24 years. These are recorded in her memoirs ''Wanderings of a Pilgrim in Search of the Picturesque''.
