Milton Ward
Milton is an electoral ward of Southend-on-Sea, in the ceremonial county of Essex, England, covering the seafront area west of Southend town centre and the eastern side of the inner city area of Westcliff-on-Sea. It is represented by three local government councillors, each elected to serve a four-year term. The ward borders Chalkwell, Kursaal and Victoria and the Castle Point Castle Point is a local government district with borough status in south Essex, east of central London. Southend-on-Sea (), commonly referred to as Southend (), is a coastal city and unitary authorities of England, unitary authority area with Borough status in the United Kingdom, borough status in southeastern Essex, England. It lies on the north side of the Thames Estuary, east of central London. It is bordered to the north by Rochford (district), Rochford and to the west by Castle Point. It is home to the longest pleasure pier in the world, Southend Pier. London Southend Airport is located north of the city centre. Southend-on-Sea originally consisted of a few poor fishermen's huts and farms at the southern end of the village of Prittlewell. The 2006 Southend-on-Sea Council election took place on 4 May 2006 to elect members of Southend-on-Sea Unitary Council in Essex, England. One third of the council was up for election and the Conservative party stayed in overall control of the council. The 2008 Southend-on-Sea Council election took place on 1 May 2008 to elect members of Southend-on-Sea Unitary Council in Essex, England. One third of the council was up for election and the Conservative party stayed in overall control of the council. After the election, the composition of the council was *Conservative 27 *Liberal Democrat 11 *Independent 7 *Labour 6 Campaign Before the election the Conservatives ran the council with 29 seats, compared to 10 for the Liberal Democrats, 7 Labour and 5 independents. The election was seen as being the closest for years with the other parties needing to gain 4 seats from the Conservatives to deprive them of a majority.
