Struga
Struga ( mk, Струга , sq, Strugë) is a town and popular tourist destination situated in the south-western region of North Macedonia, lying on the shore of Lake Ohrid. The town of Struga is the seat of Struga Municipality. Name The name Struga was first mentioned in the 11th century. It is of Slavic origin. and means a "river bed". The ancient name of the city is Enchalon (Εγχαλών), the ancient Greek word for eel, which may be related to the Illyrian Enchele tribe that was known to live in the region. According to E. Hamp, a connection with Albanian ’ngjalë’ makes it possible that the name Enchele was derived from the Illyrian term for eels, which may have been anciently related to Greek and simply adjusted to the Greek pronunciation. RK Eurofarm Pelister (HC Eurofarm Pelister) ( mk, РК Еурофарм Пелистер) is a handball club from Bitola, Macedonia. They currently compete in the Macedonian Handball Super League and EHF European League. History The original team was the first handball club in Macedonia, formed in 1946 under the name Pelagonija. It later changed its name to Pelister in 1955. The 60s were very successful, winning 4 championships starting in 1960 till the last one in 1969. The club ended up winning three more titles in the 70s. In the 80s, the 1981 season was the last winning season, capturing their 8th Macedonian league title. From the 1983-84 season, Pelister began to participate regularly in the Yugoslav Handball Championship. RK Vardar 1961 ( mk, РК Вардар 1961) is a professional handball club from Skopje, Republic of Macedonia. Vardar is the most successful handball team in the country, having won fifteen national League and Cup titles. Also, Vardar is the most successful team in the regional SEHA League having won five titles. The team has also won two EHF Champions League titles. History RK Vardar was founded in 1961, as part of the Vardar Sports Club in Skopje, which had been founded in 1947. RK Astraion Strumica ( mk, РК Струмица) is a team handball club from Strumica, North Macedonia. Background The club was founded in 1954. They defeated GRK Kavadarci in a 2012 promotion playoff and play in the VIP Super League. The team played in 2013–14 EHF Cup season. They finished last in their group with 6 loses. In the next two seasons the team played again in EHF Cup but they didn't reach the group stage again. In the 2015-16 season they also played in the regional SEHA League, but they didn't do much where only in the 1 half season they played 14 matches in which they had 2 draws and 12 losses. In 2015-16 season the team also had financial problems who led to most of the players to leave the team. Even though they finished third in the Macedonian handball league they went into bankruptcy and as of the start of the 2016-17 season the club only runs with a youth team and goes by the name RK Strumica. RK Metalurg Skopje
RK Metalurg Skopje ( mk, РК Металург Скопје) is a Macedonian handball club based in Skopje. They compete in the domestic Macedonian Handball Super League and EHF European League. History The club was founded in 1971 under patronage of the Skopje steel industry. There, an idea was born to form a team composed of employees that worked in the nearby steel mill. Nikola Bogdanovski accepted the idea after it was reviewed by the board of directors. Thus, RK Metalurg was created. The same concept realized by Bogdanovski continues to live today. At the time, the club didn't even think of playing in any of the European competitions, because they played their best not to be relegated from the first league. Handbal Club Odorheiu Secuiesc (in Hungarian: Székelyudvarhelyi Kézilabda Club, commonly abbreviated SzKC) is a Romanian team handball club based in Odorheiu Secuiesc. Founded in the summer 2005 as ''Junior Kézilabda Club'', the team entered the Romanian second division yet in that year. They won promotion to the top level championship in 2007 and two years later they already debuted on continental level, playing in the EHF Challenge Cup. The Macedonian national handball team is the national handball team of North Macedonia. The team is run by the Macedonian Handball Federation, the governing body of handball in North Macedonia. Prior to joining the International Handball Federation in 1991 as an independent country, North Macedonia was represented within the Yugoslavia men's national handball team. Handball (also known as team handball, European handball or Olympic handball) is a team sport in which two teams of seven players each (six outcourt players and a goalkeeper) pass a ball using their hands with the aim of throwing it into the goal of the other team.
