Milneland
Milne Land or Milneland is a large island in eastern Greenland. It is the third largest island of Greenland, after the main island of Greenland and Disko Island. It is named after United Kingdom, British admiral David Milne (admiral), David Milne. This island is popular among Mountaineering, climbers. Geography The island is long from Moræne Point in the southwest to Bregne Point in the northeast, up to wide, and in area. It is part of an archipelago, which includes Storo (Greenland), Storo and Sorte Island in the Northwest, Denmark Island in the south, and the Bjorne Islands in the northeast. Cape Leslie is Milneland's southeastern headland. Storo (Greenland)
Storo (, meaning 'Big island') is an uninhabited island in the Scoresby Sound fjord, Sermersooq Municipality, eastern Greenland. Geography Roughly triangular in shape, Storo lies to the SW of Renland and is separated by the Snesund from the NW shore of Milneland. The small Sorte Island lies off its southern point. The island lies between the Ofjord to the north and the Rode Fjord to the west; the mouths of the Hare Fjord and the Rype Fjord are off its northwestern end. The island has an area of 192 km2 and a shoreline of 63.3 kilometres. Storo has an List of Ultras of Greenland, ultra prominent mountain of in height. David Milne (admiral)
Admiral Sir David Milne GCB FRSE (May 1763 – 5 May 1845) was a Scottish Royal Navy admiral. Life Milne was born in Musselburgh, Midlothian, Scotland, the son of Susan Vernor and David Milne, an Edinburgh merchant. He entered the Royal Navy as a midshipman in 1779. He served in the West Indies from 1779 to 1783, seeing action in the Caribbean during the American Revolutionary War and in Lord Howe's final relief of the French and Spanish siege of Gibraltar in 1782. From 1783 to 1793, he served in the East Indies. Promoted to commander, he defeated a French division off Puerto Rico on 5 June 1795, and, in 1796, he participated in the capture of the Dutch colonies of Demerara, Essequibo and Berbice, becoming the British governor of Netherlands Guiana. Renland
Renland is a peninsula in eastern Greenland. It is a part of the Sermersooq municipality. Despite its proximity to the coast Renland has an ice cap climate with bitterly cold winters and very low maximum temperatures in the summer. Liverpool Land is a peninsula in eastern Greenland. Geography The peninsula is bounded by Scoresby Sund in the south, Carlsberg Fjord in the northwest, '' Kangerterajiva'' (Hurry Inlet) in the southwest, the Greenland Sea in the east, and Jameson Land in the west. Constable Point
Nerlerit Inaat Airport (, ) , also referred to as Constable Point Airport is an airport in the Sermersooq municipality in eastern Greenland. It is located on Jameson Land and serves the town of Ittoqqortoormiit, approximately to the south-east. The airport can serve STOL aircraft. An AS 350 helicopter of Air Greenland is permanently housed at the airport, linking it with Ittoqqortoormiit Heliport. The helicopter also provides search and rescue capabilities within the surrounding area, and can be chartered for transport. History The airport was built in 1985 by the US oil company ARCO in connection with oil exploration in Jameson Land. It was sold to Greenland in 1990. Ittoqqortoormiit
Ittoqqortoormiit (; ), formerly known as Scoresbysund, is a settlement in the Sermersooq municipality in eastern Greenland. Its population was 345 as of 2020, and it has been described as one of the most remote settlements on Earth. The former name Scoresbysund derives from the English Arctic explorer and whaler William Scoresby, who was the first European to map the area in 1822. The name "Ittoqqortoormiit" means "big house dwellers" in the Eastern Greenlandic language, Greenlandic dialect. The region is known for its wildlife, including polar bears, musk ox, muskoxen, and seals. Jameson Land
Jameson Land is a peninsula in eastern Greenland. Geography Jameson Land is bounded to the southwest by Scoresby Sound (the world's largest fjord), to the northwest by the Stauning Alps, to the north by Scoresby Land, to the northeast by the Fleming Fjord and the Nathorst Fjord of the Greenland Sea, and to the east by Carlsberg Fjord, the smaller Liverpool Land peninsula branching off, and Hurry Inlet. Rode Fjord (, meaning 'Red Fjord') is a fjord in King Christian X Land, eastern Greenland. The Rode Fjord is part of the Scoresby Sound complex''Prostar Sailing Directions 2005 Greenland and Iceland Enroute'', p. 115 in the area of Sermersooq municipality.
