Millwood High School
Millwood High School is a public secondary school in Middle Sackville, Nova Scotia that offers a post-secondary preparation program for students in grades nine through twelve. It is a part of the Halifax Regional School Board, and one of 17 high schools in the Halifax Regional Municipality. The current principal is Stephen Corkum. History Until 1986, Sackville High School was the only secondary school in the Sackville River valley. Due to the increase in accessibility to employment and services in nearby Halifax, was facilitated by the construction of provincial Highways 101 and 102 through the town in the 1970s, Sackville experienced a rapid growth in population. To accommodate this increase in population, Millwood High School was established in 1986, first in split shifts using the Sackville High building, and subsequently from early 1989 in its own building. Highway 101 is an east-west highway in Nova Scotia that runs from Bedford to Yarmouth. The highway follows a route along the southern coast of the Bay of Fundy through the Annapolis Valley, the largest agricultural district in the province. Between its western terminus at Yarmouth to Weymouth, the highway is 2-lane controlled access. Between Weymouth and Digby, the highway reverts to a 2-lane local road. From Digby to Grand Pre, the highway is 2-lane controlled access. From the Gaspereau River crossing near Grand Pre to 3 km west of Exit 6 ( Falmouth) the highway is a 4-lane freeway. Sloan (band)
Sloan is a Canadian rock music, rock band formed in Halifax, Nova Scotia in 1991. Sloan has released thirteen full-length albums and has received nine Juno Award nominations, winning one. Between 1996 and 2016, Sloan was among the top 75 best-selling Canadian artists in Canada and among the top 25 best-selling Canadian bands in Canada. The band is known for their sharing of songwriting and lead vocals from each member of the group and their unaltered line-up throughout their career. Patrick Pentland
John Patrick Thomas Pentland (born 20 September 1969) is an Irish-born rock guitarist and a member of the Canadian rock band Sloan. All four members of Sloan write, produce, and sing their own songs, but Pentland primarily plays lead guitar for most songs. He occasionally plays rhythm guitar, bass, keyboards in the studio, and occasionally plays drums live. Pentland is one of the band's two main singers, as he sings lead on at least a third of the band's songs, including many of their singles on their third to fifth albums, plus back-up/harmony vocals on most of their other songs. Musical career In high school, Pentland became serious about playing music, guitar in particular. His father had played in show bands in Northern Ireland throughout the 1960s and early 1970s. Fall River, Nova Scotia
Fall River is a suburban community located in Nova Scotia, Canada within the Halifax Regional Municipality. It is located north-northeast of the Bedford Basin, northeast of Bedford and Lower Sackville and north of Waverley. Fall River's name is derived from a stream running between Miller Lake and Lake Thomas which had a waterfall. These falls supplied water power for several mills during the 19th century as well as a local electrical utility during the early 20th century. The waterfall was demolished in the late 1950s as a result of the construction of the Bicentennial Highway leading to Halifax; the waterfall was located where the 4-lane expressway currently runs up the hill from the crossing of Lake Thomas to the interchange with Highway 118 at Miller Lake. Lockview High School
Lockview High School is a high school located in Fall River, Nova Scotia, serving the areas of Fall River, Beaver Bank, Windsor Junction, Waverley, Wellington and a section of Enfield. It opened in 2000, relieving overcrowding at Charles P. Allen High School in Bedford. Lower Sackville is a suburban community of the Halifax Regional Municipality, Nova Scotia, Canada. History Before European colonization in 1749, the Mi'kmaq lived in this area for thousands of years. Highway 102 is a north–south highway in the Canadian province of Nova Scotia that runs from Halifax to Onslow, immediately north of the town of Truro. In 2000, the section of Highway 102 between Fall River and Truro was redesignated as Veterans Memorial Highway.
