Million Dollar Legs (1939 Film)
''Million Dollar Legs'' is a 1939 American comedy film starring Betty Grable, Jackie Coogan, John Hartley and Donald O'Connor. The film has no relation to the W. C. Fields movie from seven years earlier also entitled '' Million Dollar Legs''. Plot synopsis Freddie Frye, the charming student body president of Middleton College, is struggling to find ways to impress his ex-girlfriend Susie so that she will get back with him. The college is heavily controlled by its rich donors, who only allow traditional sports to be played. Despite this Freddie tries his best to start a rowing team at the college and gets into a conflict with the school administration for his rebellious ways. The team finally has to face down State University as a final test to their skills. Nick Grinde
Nick Grinde (January 12, 1893 – June 19, 1979) was an American film director and screenwriter. He directed 57 films between 1928 and 1945. Biography Born Harry A. Grinde in Madison, Wisconsin but nicknamed "Nick", Grinde graduated from the University of Wisconsin. He later moved to New York and worked in Vaudeville. Grinde became a Cinema of the United States, Hollywood film writer and director in the late 1920s, and was often assigned to familiarize Broadway theatre, Broadway stage directors with the techniques of film making. As a director, he is considered one of American cinema's early B film specialists. Martha Raye (born Margy Reed; August 27, 1916 – October 19, 1994), nicknamed The Big Mouth, was an American comic actress and singer who performed in movies, and later on television. She also acted in plays, including on Broadway. She was honored in 1969 at the Academy Awards as the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award recipient for her volunteer efforts and services to the troops. Roy Gordon was a chemist and a research metallurgist who rose to become President of Inco Limited. Biography James Roycroft Gordon was born a Methodist in 1898 near Kingston, Ontario. He graduated from Queen's University in 1920 with a B.Sc. in Chemistry. Gordon participated as a soldier from 16 May 1918 in the Canadian Expeditionary Force of World War I.
