Millennium Park (Boston)
Millennium Park is a 100 acre urban park in the West Roxbury neighborhood of Boston, Massachusetts. History The park began as the Gardner Street Landfill for the city of Boston. Construction began in 1994 to reclaim the area as a park using land excavated in the Big Dig, and it was officially opened on December 7, 2000 by then Mayor Tom Menino. Activities and Amenities The park is well connected to neighboring parks and trails. It is adjacent to the Brook Farm Historical site and the Upper Charles River Reservation, and is close to the VFW Parkway. Landfill
A landfill is a site for the disposal of waste materials. It is the oldest and most common form of waste disposal, although the systematic burial of waste with daily, intermediate and final covers only began in the 1940s. Big Dig
The Big Dig was a megaproject in Boston that rerouted the then elevated Central Artery of Interstate 93 that cut across Boston into the O'Neill Tunnel and built the Ted Williams Tunnel to extend Massachusetts Turnpike, Interstate 90 to Logan International Airport. Those two projects were the origin of the official name, the Central Artery/Tunnel Project (CA/T Project). The project constructed the Leonard P. Zakim Bunker Hill Memorial Bridge, Zakim Bunker Hill Bridge over the Charles River, created the Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy Greenway, Rose Kennedy Greenway in the space vacated by the previous I-93 elevated roadway, and funded more than a dozen projects to improve the region's public transportation system. The Upper Charles River Reservation is a Massachusetts state park encompassing portions of the banks of the Charles River between the Watertown Dam in Watertown and Riverdale Park in Dedham and the West Roxbury neighborhood of Boston. Veterans Of Foreign Wars Parkway
The Veterans of Foreign Wars Parkway (referred to locally as the VFW Parkway) is a historic parkway in Boston, Massachusetts. The southern terminus of the parkway is at Washington Street at the Dedham-West Roxbury border, from where it travels north and then east, ending at a junction with Centre Street, near the Arnold Arboretum.
