Millard Seldin
Millard Seldin (August 8, 1926 – January 24, 2020) was an American real estate developer, banker, basketball investor, and horsebreeder. Life Seldin was born on August 8, 1926 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. His father, Ben I. Seldin, an immigrant from Russia, founded Seldin Insurance Co., acquired motels in Iowa, Nebraska and Kansas, and developed 17 apartment complexes and four shopping centers. Seldin served in the United States Navy during World War II for two years, and he graduated from the University of Iowa in 1951. Seldin co-founded Seldin and Seldin with his father Ben when he was still in college. He later founded Seldin Development and Management Company, a real estate development and management company in Omaha, Nebraska, where he built many structures including the Royalwood Office Center, Camelot Village and Howard Johnson's Motor Lodge. Council Bluffs, Iowa
Council Bluffs is a city in and the county seat of Pottawattamie County, Iowa, United States. The city is the most populous in Southwest Iowa, and is the third largest and a primary city of the Omaha-Council Bluffs Metropolitan Area. It is located on the east bank of the Missouri River, across from the city of Omaha, Nebraska. Council Bluffs was known, until at least 1853, as Kanesville. It was the historic starting point of the Mormon Trail. Kanesville is also the northernmost anchor town of the other emigrant trails, since there was a steam-powered boat to ferry their wagons, and cattle, across the Missouri River. In 1869, the first transcontinental railroad to California was connected to the existing U.S. rail network at Council Bluffs. Council Bluffs' population was 62,799 at the time of the 2020 census, making it the state's tenth largest city.
