Mildmay Monarchs
The Mildmay Monarchs were a senior hockey team based out of Mildmay, Ontario, Canada. They played in the Western Ontario Athletic Association Senior Hockey League. Championships The Monarchs, who played in the WOAA from 2003–2007, never won a WOAA Championship, and no previous Mildmay team has ever been WOAA champions either. Mildmay's teams has won at least 15 Ontario Hockey Association and Ontario Minor Hockey Association championships since 1955. The First Monarchs were formed in 1946, and over the years there have been many different versions of the Mildmay Monarchs. 2006-07 Monarchs Season Mildmay finished in 7th place in the North Division with a 6-16-2 record. The Monarchs then faced off against the Wingham Bulls in the opening round of the "A" playoffs, and were swept in 4 games, ending their season. Mildmay, Ontario
Mildmay is a community of people of primarily English and German descent in the municipality of South Bruce, Bruce County, Ontario, Canada. it is northwest of Minto and south of Walkerton on Highway 9. Formosa lies to the northwest, and Neustadt to the east. Mildmay was possibly named after "the place in England where the famour Mildmay Evangelical Meetings were held". Post office dates from 1868. Mildmay is a good example of a prosperous rural Ontario small town. It contains a well stocked grocery store, hardware store, pharmacy, 2 diners/restaurants, a pub as well as many other businesses. Mildmay also has a recreational complex with an arena, a baseball diamond and a few other sport facilities. The town has a park with a playground and many walking trails, a library, a fire station and a few churches of different Christian denominations. The WOAA Senior AA Hockey League is a Canadian senior ice hockey league governed by the Western Ontario Athletic Association. The league operates in Southwestern Ontario. History Format The league uses Hockey Canada playing rules but is not operated under the jurisdictions of the Ontario Hockey Association or Hockey Canada. The league is based in the Georgian Triangle and Southwestern Ontario. The league has been in existence since 1943, one year after the WOAA itself was established, and has entertained large crowds with local former Junior Hockey players and the odd former professional player. The league is rather large and features teams of both Senior "AA" and Senior "A" calibre. It is generally accepted that none of these teams could financially compete with the Senior "AAA" teams that compete for the Allan Cup. The Ontario Hockey Association (OHA) is the governing body for the majority of junior and senior level ice hockey teams in the Province of Ontario. The OHA is sanctioned by the Ontario Hockey Federation along with the Northern Ontario Hockey Association. Other Ontario sanctioning bodies along with the OHF include the Hockey Eastern Ontario and Hockey Northwestern Ontario. Ontario Minor Hockey Association
The Ontario Minor Hockey Association (OMHA) is a minor ice hockey governing body in Ontario. The OMHA is sanctioned by the Ontario Hockey Federation and Hockey Canada. History The OMHA was founded on November 30, 1940, after a merger of the Ontario Juvenile Hockey Association and the Ontario Midget and Bantam Hockey Association, arranged by Jack Roxburgh. The new league began its first season with eight teams, and signed an affiliation agreement with the Ontario Hockey Association (OHA). Wingham Bulls
The Wingham Bulls were a senior hockey team based out of Wingham, Ontario, Canada. They played in the Western Ontario Athletic Association Senior Hockey League. Championships The Wingham Spitfires won the WOAA Sr. "A" title three years in a row, from 2001-2003. A previous Wingham team with the same nickname won the 1951 WOAA Grand Championship, while in 1984, the Wingham Royals were crowned the Intermediate "A" title. 2006-07 Bulls Season The Bulls improved greatly from their 2005-06 season, and finished the year with a 12-12-0 record, which placed them 6th in the WOAA South Division. In the opening round of the "A" playoffs, the Bulls swept the Mildmay Monarchs in 4 games. The Western Ontario Athletic Association (WOAA) is the governing body of minor and senior sports in a region encompassing Grey County, Bruce County, Perth County, Huron County, northern Middlesex County, and northern Wellington County. The WOAA Senior Hockey League has been around since 1948. Sports The WOAA controls these sports: Senior Hockey, Women's Hockey, Minor Hockey, and Softball. The WOAA also actively trains officials for these sports. The WOAA's jurisdiction over local Senior Hockey has lasted since the 1948-1949 season but the association was actually established in 1942 by W. T. (Doc) Cruickshank of Wingham, Ontario.
