Mikuláš Ferjenčík (1987)
Brigadier General Dr. Mikuláš Ferjenčík (6 December 1904 – 4 March 1988) was a Czechoslovak military veterinarian, resistance fighter, and exiled politician. In 1992 he was posthumously promoted to the rank of General of the Army. Biography Ferjenčík was born in Polomka, Slovakia (at the time a part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire). He graduated from high school in Rožňava and the University of Veterinary and Pharmaceutical Sciences in Brno, before serving in the military veterinary service. By the outbreak of World War II he was chief of the Slovak Army Veterinary Service with the rank of lieutenant colonel. During the war he joined the Czechoslovakian resistance and participated in the Slovak National Uprising as chief of staff to Ján Golian. On 4 August 1944, Ferjenčík was part of a delegation from the Slovak National Council that flew to Moscow carrying detailed plans of their uprising against the Nazis. Board Of Commissioners (Slovak Executive Body)
Board of Commissioners ( Slovak: Zbor povereníkov, Czech: Sbor pověřenců) was an executive body of Slovak National Council. Creation In 1943 two Slovak National Councils were created. One was created abroad and was a body of Slovak exiles, renamed in 1948 to Slovak National Council Abroad, until terminated in 1960. The second one was an illegal body created as a rebellious organisation against clerofascist regime in first Slovak Republic, this body is also predecessor of current Slovak parliament. At the time of its creation it exercised legislative, executive and judicial powers and therefore members of the Council issued direction which created Board of Commissioners as of September 1, 1944 in order to shift the executive powers. Slovak National Uprising
The Slovak National Uprising ( sk, Slovenské národné povstanie, abbreviated SNP) was a military uprising organized by the Slovak resistance movement during World War II. This resistance movement was represented mainly by the members of the Democratic Party, but also by social democrats and Communists, albeit on a smaller scale. It was launched on 29 August 1944 from Banská Bystrica in an attempt to resist German troops that had occupied Slovak territory and to overthrow the collaborationist government of Jozef Tiso. Although the resistance was largely defeated by German forces, guerrilla operations continued until the Red Army, Czechoslovak Army and Romanian Army occupied the Slovak Republic in 1945. In the post-war period, many political entities, mainly the Communists, attempted to "hijack" the uprising to their credit. The Third Czechoslovak Republic ( cs, Třetí Československá republika, sk, Tretia česko-slovenská republika), officially the Czechoslovak Republic (, ), emerged as a sovereign state after the end of World War II, from 1945 to 1948.
