Mikki Kunttu
Mikki Kunttu (born 1971) is a Finnish lighting and set designer. Kunttu has worked mainly in the field of dance, but also theatre, popular music and opera, as well as television and industrial arts. At the age of 18 Kunttu began designing lightings for Kotka City Theatre. He graduated in 1995 from the Media and Arts programme of Tampere University of Applied Sciences, specializing in lighting and sound design. After graduating he proceeded to work at Tampere Concert Hall. Kunttu has worked with many prominent dance artists and groups from Finland and abroad, such as Tero Saarinen, Jorma Elo, Jorma Uotinen, Carolyn Carlson, Akram Khan, Jirí Kylián and Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui. Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui
Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui (born 1976) is a Belgian dancer and choreographer and director. He has made over 50 choreographic pieces and received two Laurence Olivier Award for Best New Dance Production, three Ballet Tanz awards for best choreographer (2008, 2011, 2017), the KAIROS Prize (2009) and the Europe Prize Theatrical Realities (2018). Early life He was born on 10 March 1976 in Antwerp, Belgium, of a Flemish mother and a Moroccan father. After being talent-spotted, he participated as a dancer in variety of shows and television programs. At the age of 19 he won his first prize for his solo performance that included a mixture of vogueing, African dance and hip-hop motifs, at the national dance competition initiated by Alain Platel. Dance Suomi
''Dance Suomi'', or simply ''Dance'', is a Finnish televised dance competition with a format based on the American dance show ''So You Think You Can Dance''. As with other shows in the ''So You Think You Can Dance'' franchise, the competition places young dancers from a wide variety of stylistic backgrounds in competition, with a combination of judge decisions and at-home-viewer votes deciding who persists in the competition from week to week. ''Dancing with the Stars'' is the name of various international television series based on the format of the British TV series ''Strictly Come Dancing'', which is distributed by BBC Studios, the commercial arm of the BBC. Currently the format has been licensed to 60 territories. Versions have also been produced in dozens of countries across the world. ''Idols'' is a Finnish reality-television singing competition that airs on Nelonen (and formerly also on MTV3 and Sub). Savonlinna Opera Festival
Savonlinna Opera Festival ( fi, Savonlinnan oopperajuhlat) is held annually in the city of Savonlinna in Finland. The Festival takes place at the medieval Olavinlinna (St. Olaf's Castle), built in 1475. The castle is located amid spectacular lake scenery. Origin The birth of the Savonlinna Opera Festival ties in closely with the emerging Finnish identity and striving for independence at the beginning of the 20th century. Attending a nationalist meeting in Olavinlinna Castle in 1907, the Finnish soprano Aino Ackté, already famous at opera houses the world over and an ardent patriot, immediately spotted the potential of the castle as the venue for an opera festival. Tero Saarinen Company
Tero Saarinen Company is a dance group founded in 1996 by its director, the Finnish dance artist and choreographer Tero Saarinen. The group's repertoire consists mainly of choreographies by Saarinen. The Company is based in Helsinki, although it mainly performs abroad. The group's rehearsal space and office are in the Alexander Theatre, where it also performs some of its small to midscale works.
