Michael Evgenevich Verner (Russian - Михаил Евгеньевич Вернер; 1881–1941) was a Soviet film director and painter, notable as one of the founders and leaders of cinematography in Ukraine. He set his films both before and after the Russian Revolution and his oeuvre is dominated by comedy. He directed Late for a Date for Belgoskino. The Russian Revolution was a period of political and social revolution that took place in the former Russian Empire which began during the First World War. This period saw Russia abolish its monarchy and adopt a socialist form of government following two successive revolutions and a bloody civil war. ''Late for a Date'' (russian: Девушка спешит на свидание, Devushka speshit na svidanie; literally ''Girl in a hurry for a date'') is a Soviet comedy film directed by Mikhail Verner. A new print was issued in 1987, completely redubbed. Plot Professor Leonid S. Fedorov and Nikolai Gurov, a cobbler at "Moskooppromsoyuza", both set off for the resort at Yessentuki. They have both left their passports at home and their wives both take them into the post-office to send them. The girl addressing the two envelopes is distracted by a phone conversation about a date and mistakenly sends the professor's passport to the cobbler and vice versa. After several comedic misunderstandings, the two men's wives arrive at the resort and clarify everything. Belarusfilm ( be, Беларусьфільм) is the main film studio of Belarus. History Belarusfilm, under the name ''Belgoskino'' was founded in 1924. In 1928, the ''Soviet Belarus'' studio (''Савецкая Беларусь'') was founded in Leningrad. The studio was moved to Minsk in 1939. Film production was interrupted by World War II, and restarted in 1946, when the studio assumed its current name. In Soviet times, the studio was dubbed ''Partizanfilm'', due to the large output of films portraying the Soviet partisan's struggle against Nazi occupation. The studio was, however, also renowned for its children's films. The studio has to date made 131 animated films.
