Mikel Lasa
Mikel Lasa Goikoetxea (born 9 September 1971) is a Spanish football retired player and current manager. He played as a left back. He currently manages Futuro Kings FC in Equatorial Guinea. He played 267 La Liga matches over 13 seasons (six goals scored), representing Real Sociedad, Real Madrid and Athletic Bilbao. Lasa was part of the squad that won the Olympic gold medal in 1992. Club career Lasa was born in Legorreta, Gipuzkoa. He was a product of local Real Sociedad's youth academy, and made his La Liga debut not yet aged 18, as the Basque side was coached by John Toshack, during the 1988–89 season. After delivering as a young talent, Lasa signed with Real Madrid for the 1991–92 campaign for approximately €1.7 million, seen as a replacement for ageing Rafael Gordillo. Basque Country National Football Team
The Basque Country representative football team (officially, in Basque, 'Euskal selekzioa') represents the Basque Country in football. It selects players from the Basque Country autonomous community, Navarre and the French Basque Country and is organised by the Basque Football Federation. It is not affiliated with FIFA or UEFA and therefore only allowed to play friendly matches against FIFA or non-FIFA affiliated teams. John Toshack
John Benjamin Toshack (born 22 March 1949) is a Welsh former professional football player and manager. He began his playing career as a teenager with his hometown club Cardiff City, becoming the youngest player to make an appearance for the side when he made his debut in 1965. After establishing himself in the first-team, he went on to make over 200 appearances and scored 100 goals in all competitions after forming a striking partnership with Brian Clark. In 1970, he joined First Division side Liverpool, where he formed a noted forward partnership with Kevin Keegan and Steve Heighway that helped the club to win two league titles, the European Cup, the UEFA Cup on two occasions, the FA Cup and the UEFA Super Cup. His partnership with Keegan was so effective that the two were described as telepathic. The football competition at the 1992 Summer Olympics featured 16 national sides from the six continental confederations. The 16 teams were drawn into four groups of four and each group played a round-robin tournament. At the end of the group stage, the top two teams advanced to the knockout stage, beginning with the quarter-finals and culminating with the gold medal match at Camp Nou on 8 August 1992. For the first time, an age limit has been set for participants under the age of 23, which has been used ever since.
