Mike Smithson (Australian Journalist)
Michael Grant Smithson (born 26 November 1956) is an Australian political reporter and journalist. He is a presenter for ''Seven News'' in Adelaide, South Australia, Australia and can be heard on Adelaide radio station FIVEaa discussing political events with Leon Byner. Career Smithson started his career in print media with Messenger Newspapers in the mid-1970s. He later moved to television joining the ''Seven News'' in Adelaide, later becoming the senior police reporter with ''Seven News'' in Melbourne. Mike returned to Adelaide and became Network Ten's first weekend newsreader before becoming a bureau chief with the Hinch and Real Life programs. He has previously been brief host of ''Today Tonight'' Adelaide and European Correspondent. Some of his biggest reporting stories have included the Skase Chase, the 2000 Summer Olympics and the War on Terror in Afghanistan. FIVEaa
FIVEAA (pronounced ''Five Double A'') is Adelaide's only commercial talkback radio station. The station has a range of programs including news, sports, current affairs, social issues, football calls, gardening, lifestyle, cars, travel and health. It is owned by Nova Entertainment. History 5AA commenced service in Kent Town on 14 March 1976 on the frequency 1390 AM. It was moved to 1386 AM with the introduction of 9 kHz spacing on the AM dial in 1978. The station now broadcasts on 1395 AM. 5AA commenced its life with a "Beautiful Music" format and quickly became Adelaide's number-1-rated radio station. In 1976, the only FM competition was ABC Classic FM. AM stations were ABC Radio, 5DN and music stations 5KA and 5AD. Leon Byner
Leon Byner (born 17 September 1948) is a retired Australian broadcaster who started his radio career in 1966 in Shepparton, Victoria, Australia. Leon has worked successfully in Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth, and Hobart. Byner had been at 5AA for over 2 decades hosting a top rating morning talk show on radio station 5AA Adelaide and 9 radio Macquarie affiliates in country SA. Career During his career Byner has worked on radio in every Australian state capital since. Byner switched from music presentation to talk radio in 1996 and has even done a couple of stints on Los Angeles talk stations in California. ''Today Tonight'' was an Australian current affairs television program produced by the Seven Network. It aired from January 1995 to November 2019 in Adelaide and Perth. Editions in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne were previously produced before being cancelled in February 2014. Christopher Skase
Christopher Charles Skase (18 September 1948 – 5 August 2001) was an Australian businessman who later became one of his country's most wanted fugitives, after his business empire crashed spectacularly and he fled to Majorca, Spain. Early life Skase was born into a wealthy Melbourne family. His father was Charles Skase, 1948 winner of the Melbourne Sun-Aria, and prominent on-air personality on radio station 3DB, including his role as star of the live-to-air program, ''The Happy Gang'', in the 1950s.
