Mike Shoemaker (United States Navy)
Michael C. Shoemaker (born 1945) is an American politician of the Democratic Party. He was born in 1945 in Nipgen, Ohio (Ross County). Shoemaker's father, Myrl Shoemaker, was Lieutenant Governor of Ohio. Shoemaker received a Bachelor of Science in education from Capital University in Columbus, Ohio, and a Master of Education from Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio. He began his 10-year teaching career as a math instructor and football coach in Southern Ohio. In 1977, he left education and started his own home construction business. In 1982, he was elected to the Ohio House of Representatives. Shoemaker served from 1983 to 1997 in the Ohio House of Representatives after his father was elected lieutenant governor in 1982. He was appointed to the Ohio Senate in 1997. In 2002, his district was made significantly more Republican in redistricting, and he was defeated by State Representative John Carey. Circleville, Ohio
Circleville is a city in Pickaway County, Ohio, United States, and its county seat. The city is situated along the Scioto River 25 miles (40 km) south of Columbus, Ohio, Columbus. The population was 13,927 at the 2020 United States census, 2020 census. Circleville is named after its original layout created in 1810, which was based upon the circular Hopewell tradition Earthworks (engineering), earthwork within which the city was built. This earthwork measured in diameter, and was constructed in the early centuries of the Common Era. The county courthouse was built in the center of the innermost circle. In the late 1830s, for various reasons, residents requested authorisation from the state legislature to change Circleville's layout to a standard grid format. This was accomplished by the mid-1850s. John Carey (Ohio State Senator)
John Carey (born April 18, 1959) is an American politician in the Republican Party. He became the Chancellor of the University System of Ohio in 2013. In 2011, he served as a member of the Ohio House of Representatives, representing the 87th District, before resigning at the end of the year. He also was a member of the Ohio House of Representatives from 1995 until 2002, and the Ohio Senate from 2003 to 2010. Career Carey graduated from Wellston High School and attended Ohio University, where he earned a degree in political science. After college, he worked as an aide to U.S. Representative Clarence Miller and served as Mayor of Wellston from 1988 to 1994. Carey defeated incumbent Representative Mark Malone in 1994 to take his first term in the Ohio House of Representatives, and won reelection handily in 1996.
