Mike Perjanik
Mike Perjanik is a New Zealand-born musician, record producer, composer, arranger and bandleader who became well known in Australia from the late 1960s for his work on pop and rock recordings, and as a composer, arranger, bandleader and producer of music for film, television and advertising. New Zealand career Although largely self-taught as a keyboard player, arranger and composer, Perjanik's skills soon made him a prominent figure on the thriving New Zealand music scene of the mid-1960s. After moving to Auckland in 1963 he joined local group The Embers and encouraged his friend Doug Jerebine to follow him; Jerebine eventually joined Perjanik in The Embers after a short stint in the popular band The Keil Isles. "Home and Away" is the theme song to the Australian soap opera, ''Home and Away''. It was composed by Mike Perjanik and originally performed by Karen Boddington and Mark Williams. Their version was released as a single in 1989 and peaked at number 73 on the UK Singles Chart. There have been nine different recorded versions of the theme song used over the years, including two recorded by Australian sibling trio The Robertson Brothers. From 2010 until 2017, the ''Home and Away'' theme song was not used in the show's opening titles and was replaced by a short instrumental version. However, in 2018, two new eight-second versions of the theme song made a return to the opening titles after an eight-year absence and in 2025, the theme song returned to being a minute long, although the minute long version only plays on Thursdays, with the other days having the eight second version.
