Mike Parr (ornithologist)
Mike Parr is an Australian performance artist, printmaker and painter. Parr's works have been exhibited in Australia and internationally, including in Brazil, Cuba, France, Germany, Hungary, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, and the United States. In the 1970s, he co-founded the artist cooperative Inhibodress with Peter Kennedy (artist) , Peter Kennedy and Tim Johnson. Early life and education Parr spent his childhood in rural Queensland. He is the brother of installation art, installation/photography artist, Julie Rrap (formerly Julie Brown-Rrap). He was born with a misshapen arm, and this physical characteristic has featured within his art work. Parr commenced an arts/law degree at the University of Queensland in 1965, but discontinued his studies the following year. He moved to Sydney and, in 1968, briefly enrolled at the National Art School to study painting. National Art School
The National Art School (NAS) is a tertiary level art school, located in , an inner-city suburb of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. The school is an independent accredited higher education provider offering specialised study in studio arts practice across various disciplines. With its origins in the formation of Sydney Mechanics’ School of Arts in 1843, NAS has been in operation on the historic Darlinghurst Gaol site in East Sydney in various forms since 1922 and was formerly part of East Sydney Technical College, known as East Sydney Tech. Today NAS is a centre for education, research, scholarship and professional practice in the visual arts and related fields. NAS Tertiary Degree Program NAS has three full-time visual art degrees: Bachelor of Fine Art (BFA), Master of Fine Art (MFA) and Doctor of Fine Art (DFA).
