Mike Mitchell (safety)
Michael Mitchell (born June 10, 1987) is an American former professional American football, football player who was a Safety (gridiron football position), safety for 10 seasons in the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the Ohio Bobcats football, Ohio Bobcats and was selected by the Oakland Raiders in the second round of the 2009 NFL draft. Mitchell spent four seasons each with the Raiders and Pittsburgh Steelers, in addition to being a member of the Carolina Panthers and Indianapolis Colts for one season each. Early life Mitchell attended Covington Catholic High School in Park Hills, Kentucky for his first three years. Safety (S), historically known as a safetyman, is a position in gridiron football on the American football positions#Defense, defense. The safeties are defensive backs who line up ten to fifteen yards from the line of scrimmage. There are two variations of the position: the free safety (FS) and the strong safety (SS). Their duties depend on the defensive scheme. The defensive responsibilities of the safety and cornerback usually involve pass coverage towards the middle and sidelines of the field. While American (11-player) formations generally use two safeties, Canadian (12-player) formations generally have one safety and two Halfback (Canadian football), defensive halfbacks, a position not used in the American game. The MAC Football Championship Game is an annual postseason college football game played to determine the champion of the Mid-American Conference (MAC). History The game has been played since 1997, when the conference was first divided into divisions. For the 2024 NCAA Division I FBS football season, 2024 season the MAC eliminated divisions and the game now features the teams with the best conference records. A new tiebreaker system was established to compare teams with the same conference record. Frank Solich
Frank Thomas Solich (born September 8, 1944) is a former American college football coach and former player. He is the former head coach at Ohio University, a position he held from 2005 until 2021. From 1998 to 2003, Solich served as the head coach at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, where he also played fullback under Bob Devaney in the mid-1960s. Early life and playing career Solich grew up in Cleveland, Ohio, and graduated from Holy Name High School in 1962, where he earned all-state, All-America, and all-scholastic honors.
