Mike Miller (guitarist)
Mike Miller (May 8, 1953 – January 18, 2025) was an American rock and jazz guitarist. He worked with Bette Midler, Boz Scaggs, Chick Corea, Queen Latifah, Yellowjackets, Brand X, Burton Cummings, Vinnie Colaiuta, Quincy Jones, Gino Vannelli, and Vital Information. Background Miller was born into a musical family in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He was the third of four bass-playing brothers, performing with his father's jazz band at the age of twelve and in garage bands in his teens. He played bass in the Sioux Falls Symphony. Miller died of a heart attack on January 18, 2025, at the age of 71. Career In 1972, Miller moved to Colorado, where he played with Larry Coryell, Robben Ford, Bill Frisell, Bruce Fowler, Tom Fowler, and Steve Fowler. Bill Frisell
William Richard Frisell (born March 18, 1951) is an American jazz guitarist. He first came to prominence at ECM Records in the 1980s, as both a session player and a leader. He went on to work in a variety of contexts, notably as a participant in the Downtown Scene in New York City, where he formed a long working relationship with composer and saxophonist John Zorn. He was also a longtime member of veteran drummer Paul Motian's groups from the early 1980s until Motian's death in 2011. Since the late 1990s, Frisell's output as a bandleader has also integrated prominent elements of folk, country, rock ‘n’ roll and Americana. He has six Grammy nominations and one win. Oregon Symphony
The Oregon Symphony is an American symphony orchestra based in Portland, Oregon, United States. Founded as the "Portland Symphony Society" in 1896, it is the sixth oldest orchestra in the United States, and oldest in the Western United States. Thomas Wright Scott (born May 19, 1948) is an American saxophonist, composer, and arranger. He was a member of the Blues Brothers and led the jazz fusion group L.A. Express. Shawn Phillips (born February 3, 1943) is an American singer-songwriter and musician, primarily influential in the 1960s and 1970s. Airto Guimorvan Moreira (born August 5, 1941) is a Brazilian jazz drummer, composer and percussionist. He is married to jazz singer Flora Purim, and their daughter Diana Moreira is also a singer. Bennie Maupin (born August 29, 1940) is an American jazz multireedist who performs on various saxophones, flute, and bass clarinet. Biography Maupin was born in Detroit, Michigan. He is known for his participation in Herbie Hancock's Mwandishi sextet and Headhunters band, and for performing on Miles Davis's seminal fusion record, ''Bitches Brew''. Maupin has collaborated with Horace Silver, Roy Haynes, McCoy Tyner, Lee Morgan, Marion Brown, and many others. He is noted for having a harmonically-advanced, "out" improvisation style, while having a different sense of melodic direction than other "out" jazz musicians such as Eric Dolphy. Alphonso Johnson
Alphonso Johnson (born February 2, 1951) is an American jazz bassist active since the early 1970s. Johnson was a member of the jazz fusion group Weather Report from 1973 to 1975, and has performed and recorded with numerous high-profile rock and jazz acts including Santana, Phil Collins, members of the Grateful Dead, Steve Kimock, and Chet Baker. He is known for his soulful and versatile vocals.
