Mike Elwiss
Michael Walter Elwiss (born 2 May 1954 in Doncaster) is an English former footballer who scored 100 goals from 314 games in the Football League playing as a forward for Doncaster Rovers, Preston North End and Crystal Palace. He joined Doncaster Rovers as a junior, and scored twice in a 3–1 win against Newport County in October 1971 on his Football League debut. He was the club's top scorer in his first full season, repeated the feat the following year, then, having scored 34 goals from 108 appearances in all competitions, he joined Preston North End in February 1974 for a club record £70,000 fee. He scored both goals in a 2–2 draw against Carlisle United in his debut on 2 March 1974. He was twice named as the club's Player of the Year, and his strike partnership with Alex Bruce helped the club to promotion to the Second Division in 1978. Doncaster
Doncaster (, ) is a city in South Yorkshire, England. Named after the River Don, it is the administrative centre of the larger City of Doncaster. It is the second largest settlement in South Yorkshire after Sheffield. Doncaster is situated in the Don Valley on the western edge of the Humberhead Levels and east of the Pennines. In sports leagues, promotion and relegation is a process where teams are transferred between multiple divisions based on their performance for the completed season. Deepdale
Deepdale is a football stadium in the Deepdale area of Preston, England, the home of Preston North End. Deepdale is "widely recognised as being the oldest 'continuously used' football stadium in the world, though this is contested". History The land on which the stadium stands was originally Deepdale Farm. It was leased on 21 January 1875 by the town's North End sports club and originally used for cricket and rugby. The Football League First Division was a division of the Football League in England from 1888 until 2004. It was the top division in the English football league system from the season 1888–89 until 1991–92, a century in which the First Division's winning club became English men's football champions. Alex Bruce (footballer Born 1952)
Alexander Robert Bruce (born 23 December 1952) is a Scottish footballer who played as a striker for Preston North End, Newcastle United and Wigan Athletic. Born in Dundee, Scotland, Bruce began his career with Preston North End in 1971. He became a cult figure with the Preston supporters and was a prolific striker, finishing as the highest goal scorer, a club record, eight seasons out of ten during the 1970s and early 1980s. He remains to date the club's second highest all time goal scorer, only bettered by club stalwart Sir Tom Finney. In January 1974 he joined Newcastle United for a fee reported as £140,000 or £150,000.
