Mike Demaine
Michael Demaine (1 March 1948 – 15 September 2013) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Hawthorn in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Demaine, who came from Mornington, was a wingman and half forward flanker. He made 10 appearances for Hawthorn in the 1965 VFL season. In the opening round of the 1966 season, against Collingwood, Demaine was seriously injured and had to have a ruptured kidney removed. Hawthorn Football Club
The Hawthorn Football Club, nicknamed the Hawks, is a professional Australian rules football club based in Mulgrave, Victoria, that competes in the Australian Football League (AFL). The club was founded in 1902 in the inner-east suburb of Hawthorn, making it the youngest Victorian-based team in the AFL. Hawthorn is the only club to have won premierships in each decade of the 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, 1990s, 2000s, and 2010s. In total, it has won 13 senior VFL/AFL premierships. Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an oval field, often a modified cricket ground. 1965 VFL Season
The 1965 VFL season was the 69th season of the Victorian Football League (VFL), the highest level senior Australian rules football competition in Victoria. The season featured twelve clubs, ran from 17 April until 25 September, and comprised an 18-game home-and-away season followed by a finals series featuring the top four clubs. The premiership was won by the Essendon Football Club for the twelfth time, after it defeated by 35 points in the 1965 VFL Grand Final. Premiership season In 1965, the VFL competition consisted of twelve teams of 18 on-the-field players each, plus two substitute players, known as the 19th man and the 20th man.
