Mihir Sengupta
Mihir Sengupta (1946 – 17 January 2022) was an Indian writer of Bengali literature. He was best known for his 2005 autobiography ''Bishaad Brikkho'' ('Tree of Sorrow'). It describes the atrocities of post-partition East Pakistan as seen by the author, who was uprooted from his native Barisal Barisal ( or ; bn, বরিশাল, ), officially known as Barishal, is a major city that lies on the banks of the Kirtankhola river in south-central Bangladesh. Ananda Puroshkar
The Ananda Puraskar () is an award for Bengali literature awarded annually by the ABP Group to writers using Bengali, usually from West Bengal, India. History The award can be traced to a comment by Annada Shankar Ray ruing the absence of literary awards in Bengal. It was started on 20 April 1958 and has been given in the same month since. Initially, there were two awards, in memory of Prafulla Kumar Sarkar and Suresh Chandra Majumdar, the founders of ''Anandabazar Patrika''. Another award was started in 1984 in memory of Ashok Kumar Sarkar to commemorate the golden jubilee of '' Desh''. All three awards were merged in 2000. '' Anandabazar Patrika'' ( Bengali: আনন্দবাজার পত্রিকা, ) is an Indian Bengali-language daily newspaper owned by the ABP Group. According to the Audit Bureau of Circulations, it has a circulation of 1 million copies as of December 2019. Its main competitors are '' Bartaman'', '' Ei Samay'', and '' Sangbad Pratidin''. History A Bengali newspaper was published in 1876 in a small village of Magura at Jessore District in British India (now Bangladesh) by Tushar Kanti Ghosh and his father Sisir Kumar Ghosh.
