Miguel Cocco
Miguel Salvador Cocco Guerrero (August 21, 1946 – May 20, 2009) was a Dominican businessman and politician. Born in Santiago de los Caballeros, Santiago; his parents Manuel A. Cocco and Gisela Guerrero moved with him to Santo Domingo when he was at an early age. He began his studies at La Salle Catholic College in 1956, where from an early age he excelled as student academic laurels meritorio. Cocco graduated with academic laurels with a degree in Sociology from the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences of the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD), Cocco, then worked at the institution as a teacher and researcher, where he co-founded the Center for the Study of Dominican Social Reality (CERESD). Joaquín Balaguer
Joaquín Antonio Balaguer Ricardo (1 September 1906 – 14 July 2002) was a Dominican politician, scholar, writer, and lawyer who was the 41st, 45th and 49th president of the Dominican Republic serving three non-consecutive terms from 1960 to 1962, 1966 to 1978, and 1986 to 1996. He previously served as the 24th vice president under President Héctor Trujillo from 1957 to 1960. His enigmatic, secretive personality was inherited from the Trujillo era, as well as his desire to perpetuate himself in power through dubious elections and state terrorism, and he was considered to be a ''caudillo''. His regime of terror claimed 11,000 victims who were either tortured or forcibly disappeared and killed. The Dominican Liberation Party (Spanish: Partido de la Liberación Dominicana, referred to here by its Spanish acronym, the PLD) is a political party in the Dominican Republic. Ulises Francisco Espaillat Quiñones (February 9, 1823 – April 25, 1878) was a 19th-century Dominican Republic liberal statesman and author. He served as president of the Dominican Republic from April 29, 1876, to October 5, 1876. Espaillat Province is named after him.
