Mier, Asturias
Mier, not to be confused with Mieres, Asturias, is one of eight Parish (administrative division), parishes (administrative divisions) in Peñamellera Alta, a Municipalities of Spain, municipality within the province and autonomous communities of Spain, autonomous community of Asturias, in northern Spain. The population is 28 (Instituto Nacional de EstadÃstica (Spain), INE 2007). Mier is located in the Picos de Europa National Park and is divided in two neighbourhoods by the River Cares: Mier d'Acá and Mier d'Allá. One of Spain's deepest caves is located in Mier. Henry MatÃas Mier Codina (born 2 August 1990) is a Uruguayan professional footballer who plays as an attacking midfielder or left winger for Liga 1 club Barito Putera. Club career Early career Mier began his career at Rentistas in 2007 and transferred to Fénix in 2008. He left the club in December 2010 after the 2010 Apertura season. Peñarol Mier joined Peñarol in January 2011. On 3 June 2011 he scored a crucial away goal in a Copa Libertadores semi final clash against Vélez Sársfield of Argentina. Crown Horse Guard Regiment
The Crown Horse Guard Regiment () was a military unit of the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth and then of Poland. Formed in 1717 as a dragoon regiment by Jacob Heinrich von Flemming, it was initially commanded by Colonel William Mier, a Scottish officer in Polish service. Stationed in an area to the west of Warsaw, at the western end of the Saxon Axis, the regiment was often referred to by the name of its commanding officer. Consequently, the entire area around the regiment's barracks came to be known as Mirów and the name persists to this day. The regiment took part in the war of the Bar Confederation and the Kościuszko Uprising, notably in the Warsaw Insurrection, where 364 soldiers of the regiment fought on foot. Mirów, Warsaw
Mirów () is one of the central neighbourhoods in the Wola district of Warsaw, the capital of Poland. History The neighbourhood is situated between Towarowa Street to west, Solidarity Avenue to the north, John Paul II Avenue to the east and Jerusalem Avenue to the south. The principal thoroughfare of the area is Prosta Street. 18th century The present-day territory of Mirów was once occupied by a ''jurydyka'' called Wielopole, a self-governing town and exclave of Warsaw, just outside the city's borders. By the 18th century, the town lost its independent status and was incorporated into the city limits. The area was named after William Mier, a Scottish officer in Polish service and the commanding officer of the Horse Guard of the Polish Crown Regiment stationed in what became known as the Mirów Barracks. Wilhelm Mier
Wilhelm Mier (c. 1680 – 13 February 1758) was a military officer, statesman, and nobleman. He was the Governor of Kraków and Sandomierz from 1715 to 1724, and the member of the Senate of the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth, as the Castellan of Słońsk, from 1746 to 1758. He was also a major general in the Crown Army of the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth, and the commanding officer of the Crown Horse Guard Regiment. Servando Teresa De Mier
Fray José Servando Teresa de Mier Noriega y Guerra (October 18, 1765 – December 3, 1827) was a Roman Catholic priest, preacher, and politician in New Spain. He was imprisoned several times for his controversial beliefs, and lived in exile in Spain, France and England. His sermons and writings presented revisionist theological and historical opinions that supported republicanism. Mier worked with Francisco Javier Mina during the Mexican War of Independence and, as a deputy in independent Mexico's constituent Congress, opposed AgustÃn de Iturbide's claim to imperial rule. He is honored for his role in Mexican independence. Education Mier was born in Monterrey, Nuevo León, in the Viceroyalty of New Spain (in modern-day Mexico). The Mexican state of Nuevo León has been governed by more than a hundred individuals in its history, who have had various titles and degrees of responsibility depending on the prevailing political regime of the time. Under the current regime, executive power rests in a governor, who is directly elected by the citizens, using a secret ballot, to a six-year term with no possibility of reelection. The position is open only to a Mexican citizen by birth, at least 30 years old with at least five years of residency in Nuevo León. Ciudad Mier
Mier (), also known as ''El Paso del Cántaro'', is a city in Mier Municipality in Tamaulipas, located in northern Mexico near the Rio Grande, just south of Falcon Dam. It is northeast of Monterrey on Mexican Federal Highway 2. (26°28'N 99°10'W) In 1990, the population was recorded at 6,190. By the 2010 census, it had dropped to 4,762 inhabitants. It has an agricultural economy centered on cotton, sugar cane, corn, and livestock. History The town was founded on March 6, 1753. The land was originally owned by Felix de Almandoz. Land later passed on to General Prudencio Basterra who married Felix's sister Ana Maria. 19 Families from Camargo formed the new settlement. The Mier Park (Polish: ''Park Mirowski''), also known as the Downtown Park (Polish: ''Park Śródmiejski''), is an urban park in Warsaw, Poland. The park is located in the district of Downtown, between Jana Pawła II Avenue, Marszałkowska Street, Mier Halls, and the Za Żelazną Bramą neighbourhood. Name The Mier Park was named after the nearby Mier Halls and Mier Square, which in turn were named after the Mier Barracks, built there in the 18th century.
