Mien
The Yao people () or Dao () is a classification for various ethnic minorities in China and Vietnam. Their majority branch is also known as Mien. They originated in the areas around Changsha, which today is the capital of Hunan province. They speak a branch of the Hmong-Mien family of languages and share a strong genetic connection to the Hmong peoples. They are believed to have diverged from the Hmong around 5,800 years ago. They are one of the 56 officially recognized ethnic groups in China and reside in the mountainous southwest and south of the country. They also form one of the 54 ethnic groups officially recognized by Vietnam. They numbered 2,796,003 in the 2010 Chinese census and 891,151 in the 2019 Vietnamese census. Mien Sugandhi
Mien Sugandhi (28 July 1934 – 5 January 2020) was an Indonesian politician who served as the State Minister of Women's Affairs from March 1993 to March 1998 under President Suharto's rule. In 1977, Sugandhi was elected to the Dewan Perwakilan Rakyat (DPR). She was also a member of People's Consultative Assembly. She retained her DPR membership till 1993, when Indonesian President Suharto appointed her State Minister of Women's Affairs in his Sixth Development Cabinet. For her services in this capacity, Sugandhi received the government honour ' in 1996. Following the May 1998 riots of Indonesia, Sugandhi was one of the prominent politicians who called for Suharto's resignation as President. In 2001, she received her doctoral degree from Northern California Global University. Harrah's Philadelphia Casino & Racetrack is a harness racing track and casino (a racino) on the Chester, Pennsylvania waterfront. It is owned by Vici Properties and operated by Caesars Entertainment. History The track was built on the site of the former Sun Shipbuilding campus. Its first harness racing season opened on September 10, 2006. Hmong–Mien Languages
The Hmong–Mien languages (also known as Miao–Yao and rarely as Yangtzean) are a highly tonal language family of southern China and northern Southeast Asia. They are spoken in mountainous areas of southern China, including Guizhou, Hunan, Yunnan, Sichuan, Guangxi, Guangdong and Hubei provinces; the speakers of these languages are predominantly " hill people", in contrast to the neighboring Han Chinese, who have settled the more fertile river valleys. Vũ Miên
Vũ Miên ( vi-hantu, 武檰; 1718 - 1782), was a historian and official in 18th century Vietnam. Vũ Miên was born in 1718 in former Xuân Lan village, currently known as Ngọc Quan thorp in Lương Tài district, Bắc Ninh province, in a noble clan with tradition of studying. He did get highest scores in many Confucian examinations, including Hội nguyên (會元), then finally was awarded the title Tiến sĩ (進士) in 1748 (30 years old). Wang Mien
Wang Mian (; 1287–1359), courtesy name Yuanzhang (), also known as Zhushi Shannong, was a Chinese painter and poet active during the Yuan dynasty. Initially aspiring to be a government official, Wang later earned considerable recognition as an artist who specialised in plum blossom paintings. Falling out of the public eye in his later years, Wang had a short stint as military adviser to Zhu Yuanzhang. Wang makes an appearance in the eighteenth-century novel '' The Scholars''. Career Wang Mian was born in 1287 in Zhuji, Zhejiang. His father was a peasant, but Wang did not wish to follow in his footsteps, and strove to attain a better life. Mien Van Wulfften Palthe
Mien van Wulfften Palthe (1 April 1875 – 11 November 1960; Broese van Groenou) was a Dutch feminist and pacifist. As a member of the Vereeniging voor Vrouwenkiesrecht (Society for Women's Suffrage) and Women's International League for Peace and Freedom, she strove to secure enfranchisement for women and worked as an advocate for peace. Early years Frederika Wilhelmina Broese van Groenou was born on 1 April 1875 in Djokjakarta, Dutch East Indies, part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Jeannetta Emilia (née Wieseman) and Wolter Broese van Groenou. She was the oldest of the seven siblings and her father was serving in the Royal Dutch East Indies Army at the time of her birth. Mien Van Itallie-Van Embden
Hendrika Wilhelmina Bernardina "Mien" van Itallie-van Embden (22 October 1870 - 6 September 1959) was a Dutch lawyer and politician who served as a member of the House of Representatives from 1928 until 1933 for the Free-thinking Democratic League (VDB). She was active in the women's rights and peace movements. From a young age she was a member of the Vereeniging voor Vrouwenkiesrecht, of which she became a leading figure in 1900. She married Leopold van Itallie in 1894, after which she was known as Mien van Itallie-van Embden. By 1911, she was on the board of the VDB, one of two female board members, Betsy Bakker-Nort being the other. In 1915 she was elected on the board of the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom. Mien Van Bree
Wilhelmina Elizabeth (Mien) van Bree (24 April 1915 – 4 August 1983) was a Dutch cyclist. She is considered a pioneer of women's cycling in the Netherlands. Early years Van Bree was the fourth of five children in a horticultural family, the daughter of Adrianus van Bree (1878–1959) and Elizabeth Hendrika van Beek (1884–1952). She grew up in the Tramstraat, in Loosduinen, South Holland. Cycling was an early hobby for her. To train and test her speed, she chased after the buses. Her talent was noticed by neighbour Piet Moeskops, five-time sprint world champion (1921–1926). His compliments motivated her to further develop her cycling talent. Mień is a village in the administrative district of Gmina Brańsk, within Bielsk County, Podlaskie Voivodeship, in eastern Poland.
