Midwest Communications, Inc. is a Wausau, Wisconsin–based radio broadcasting company. It owns 82 radio stations located primarily within the Midwest United States, in Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, Tennessee, Illinois and Wisconsin. The company is a family-owned business and is headed by the Wright family. History 1950s-1960s Midwest Communications began in Wausau, Wisconsin, with WRIG, Inc. and the acquisition by the Duey E. Wright family of a 1400 kHz, 250 watt AM facility from the Wisconsin Valley Television Corporation. The call letters WRIG (for Wright) were assigned and on August 1, 1958, top forty-formatted WRIG signed on the air. Power was increased to 1,000 watts in 1961 and WRIG-FM (now WDEZ) signed on in 1964. 1970s Midwest started station WROE in Appleton/Oshkosh, Wisconsin in 1971. Founder Duey E. KFMB-TV (channel 8) is a television station in San Diego, California, United States, affiliated with CBS, The CW, and MyNetworkTV. Owned by Tegna Inc., it has studios on Engineer Road in the Kearny Mesa section of San Diego, and its transmitter is atop Mount Soledad in La Jolla. History The station first sign-on and sign-off, signed on the air on May 16, 1949. It was the first television station in the San Diego media market. The station was founded by Jack O. Gross, who also owned local radio station KFMB (760 AM, now KGB (AM), KGB). San Diego mayor Harley E. Knox was present at the station's first broadcast. The station cost Gross $300,000 to build. WIBU (1440 AM) was a radio station broadcasting a news/talk format. Licensed to Paris, Illinois, United States, the station served the Terre Haute, Indiana area. The station was owned by Midwest Communications, Inc. and featured programming from Fox News Radio, Compass Media Networks, Genesis Communications Network, Premiere Networks, and Westwood One. KTCO (98.9 FM broadcasting, FM, "Kat Country 98.9") is a radio station in Duluth, Minnesota, airing a country music format. KTCO is owned by Midwest Communications, which also owns KDKE, WDSM, WDUL, KDAL (AM), KDAL, and KDAL-FM in Duluth. All the Duluth stations share the same studio location at 11 East Superior St. Suite 380, downtown Duluth. KDKE (102.5 FM, "Duke FM") is a classic country radio station located in Duluth, Minnesota (licensed to Superior, Wisconsin). KDKE is owned by Midwest Communications, which also owns WDSM, WDUL, KDAL, KDAL-FM and KTCO in Duluth. KDAL-FM (95.7 MHz, "My 95.7") is an American radio station in Duluth, Minnesota, airing an adult contemporary format. KDAL-FM is owned by Midwest Communications, which also owns KDKE, WDSM, WDUL, KDAL, and KTCO in Duluth. All the Duluth stations share the same studio location at 11 East Superior St. Suite 380, downtown Duluth. History KDAL-FM previously carried an adult contemporary format under the names "96 Lite FM" and "Magic 95.7". KDAL-FM aired the syndicated Deliliah show weeknights. KDAL (610 kHz) is a commercial AM radio station in Duluth, Minnesota, serving the Duluth-Superior area of Northeastern Minnesota and Northwestern Wisconsin. KDAL is owned and operated by Midwest Communications and broadcasts a talk radio format. The radio studios and offices for KDAL, KDAL-FM, KDKE, WDSM, WDUL and KTCO are at 11 East Superior Street, Suite 380, in downtown Duluth. By day, KDAL transmits with 5,000 watts non-directional. At night, to protect other stations on 610 AM, KDAL uses a directional antenna. Programming is also heard on 250-watt FM translator W280FB at 103.9 MHz. WTVB (1590 AM) is a regional radio station located in Coldwater, Michigan. It carries largely classic hits and local news and sports, with Westwood One as its source for national news, and carries Westwood One's Classic Hits Total format. Midwest Communications owns WTVB. The call letters originally stood for Twin Valley Broadcasters and are in no way connected to any television station, although the station bills itself as "The Voice of Branch County. The "valleys" mentioned (ironically Coldwater is in one of the highest parts of southern Lower Michigan) are apparently the short Coldwater River and the St. Joseph River in south-central Michigan.
