Midlothian Independent School District
Midlothian Independent School District is a public school district based in Midlothian, Texas, United States. In addition to Midlothian, the district serves parts of Cedar Hill, Mansfield, Grand Prairie, Ovilla, and Venus as well as rural areas in northwestern Ellis County. 2015 TEA rating In 2015, the district received the " Met Standard" rating by the Texas Education Agency. All 9 individual Midlothian ISD campuses also met the standard in 2015. Two new schools, Midlothian Heritage High School and McClatchey Elementary School, were not rated for 2015 as they were brand new schools at the time. Tarleton State University
Tarleton State University is a public university with its main campus in Stephenville, Texas. It is a founding member of the Texas A&M University System and enrolled over 14,000 students in the fall of 2020. History John Tarleton Agricultural College was founded in 1899 with an endowment from settler John Tarleton. The college became a member of the Texas A&M University system in 1917. Ellis County, Texas
Ellis County is a county located in the U.S. state of Texas. As of 2020, its population was estimated to be 192,455. The county seat is Waxahachie. The county was founded in 1849 and organized the next year. It is named for Richard Ellis, president of the convention that produced the Texas Declaration of Independence. Venus, Texas
Venus is a town in Johnson and Ellis counties in the U.S. state of Texas. The population was 4,361 in 2020. History The town was originally named "Gossip" until its development in the late 1880s. A man by the name of J.C. Smythe purchased of abandoned cornfields in the northeastern corner of Johnson County and began to plan a townsite. He named his new town "Venus" after the daughter of a local doctor. By 1888 the new town had a post office and a population of around 10 residents. Being at the junction of two major railroads, Venus prospered and for a time was one of the fastest-growing communities in Johnson County. By the 1920s, Venus had its own schools (including a small college), several businesses, a weekly newspaper (the ''Venus Express''), and a population that exceeded 800.
