Midlands Province
Midlands is a province of Zimbabwe. It has an area of and a population of 1,811,905 (2022). It is home to various peoples. Located at a central point in the country, it contains speakers of Shona, Ndebele, Tswana, Sotho and Chewa, as well as of various other languages. Gweru, the third-largest city in Zimbabwe, is the capital of the province. Midlands Province contains Kwekwe, a city of considerable mining and manufacturing industries, in which also the Sable Chemicals Trust maintains a presence. Provinces are constituent Polity, political entities of Zimbabwe. Zimbabwe currently has ten provinces, two of which are City, cities with provincial status. Zimbabwe is a unitary state, and its provinces exercise only the powers that the central government chooses to delegate. Provinces are divided into Districts of Zimbabwe, districts, which are divided into Ward (electoral subdivision), wards. The Constitution of Zimbabwe delineates provincial governance and powers. Runde Rural District Council is Zvishavane Rural District local government arm taking care of the rural district while Zvishavane Town Council administers the urban district. Mberengwa Rural District Council is the rural district local authority over Mberengwa District. It is one of the 8 rural district councils in the Midlands Province, established in terms of the Zimbabwe Rural District Councils Act; Chapter 29.13. Zvishavane District
Zvishavane District is one of the eight districts in Midlands Province of Zimbabwe. 85,035 people live in Zvishavane rural and 59,714 live in Zvishavane town (2022 census). It has Mberengwa District to the south and Shurugwi District to the north. Its capital is Zvishavane town. Shurugwi District
Shurugwi, originally known as Selukwe, is a district located in Midlands Province, southern Zimbabwe. 98,315 people live in Shurugwi rural and 23,304 live in Shurugwi town (2022 census). Background It is an important centre for gold, platinum and chrome mining, but it is perhaps best known as the home district of the former Rhodesian Prime Minister Ian Douglas Smith who owned a farm near Gwenoro Dam. Its principal town is also called Shurugwi. It is located about 30 kilometres from the Midlands Provincial capital Gweru. Shurugwi District encompasses much of the rural areas of Nhema and some parts of Chivi. Mberengwa, originally known as Belingwe, is a district in Midlands province in Zimbabwe. The district is now divided into sub-districts: Mberengwa North, East, West and South. Gweru District is a district in the Midlands Province of Zimbabwe. Background Gweru District gets its name from Gweru River which has the city as its source and primary drainage basin. Maintaining the theme of the midlands Gweru is very diverse. The name Gweru is a further corruption of the name Gwelo which was a distortion of the name ''Ikwelo'' given by isiNdebele speakers in the late 19th century.
