Midi Z
Midi Z (; born December 18, 1982) is a Myanmar-born Taiwanese film director. His 2014 film '' Ice Poison'' was selected as the Taiwanese entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 87th Academy Awards. On November 7, 2016, his work '' The Road to Mandalay'' (2016) was screened in his home country for the first time. Life and career Chao was born in Lashio, Shan State, Myanmar. Both his parents are of Chinese descent, and his ancestral home is in Nanking. The son of a cook and a doctor, Chao was the youngest of five children and grew up poor. He won a scholarship and moved to Taiwan when he was 16, where he went to high school. Chao received both his bachelor's degree and master's degree in design at National Taiwan University of Science and Technology, after which he became a naturalized Taiwanese citizen in 2011. Tokyo International Film Festival
The is a film festival established in 1985. The event was held biennially from 1985 to 1991 and annually thereafter. According to the FIAPF, it is one of Asia's competitive film festivals and the second largest film festival in Asia behind the Shanghai International Film Festival, as well as the only Japanese festival accredited by the FIAPF. The awards handed out during the festival have changed throughout its existence, but the Tokyo Grand Prix, handed to the best film, has stayed as the top award. Other awards that have been given regularly include the Special Jury Award and awards for best actor, best actress and best director. In recent years, the festival's main events have been held over one week in late October, at the Roppongi Hills development. In Chinese culture, an ancestral home is the place of origin of one's extended family. It may or may not be the place where one is born. For instance, Lien Chan was born in Xi'an, but his ancestral home is Zhangzhou. 73rd Venice International Film Festival
The 73rd annual Venice International Film Festival was held from 31 August to 10 September, 2016, at Venice Lido in Italy. English filmmaker Sam Mendes was the jury president of the main competition. Italian actress Sonia Bergamasco hosted the opening and closing nights of the festival. The Golden Lion was awarded to '' The Woman Who Left'' by Lav Diaz. A new project named Venice Production Bridge was introduced in this edition of the festival. The new project was intended to attract industry professionals and focus on original projects for films, internet, series, virtual reality, and works in progress, in order to help their development and production. Lashio
Lashio ( ; Shan: ) is the largest city and the capital of northern Shan State, Myanmar, about north-east of Mandalay. It is situated on a low mountain spur overlooking the valley of the Yaw River. Loi Leng, the highest mountain of the Shan Hills, is located to the south-east of Lashio. Lashio is the administrative center of Lashio Township and Lashio District; before April 2010, it was also the administrative center of Shan State (North). The population grew from approximately 5000 in 1960 to 88,590 in 1983. It was estimated at approximately 131,000 in 2009.
