The Middlesbrough Municipal Ladies Classic was a professional golf tournament in England on the Ladies European Tour. The 36-hole event was held at the par-72 Middlesbrough Municipal Golf Club in Middlesbrough on 30–31 July 1983. Beverly Lewis won the tournament two strokes ahead of Muriel Thomson and Mickey Walker, with Dale Reid Dale Reid (20 March 1959 – 8 November 2023) was a Scottish professional golfer. 1983 Ladies European Tour
The 1983 Ladies European Tour was the fifth season of golf tournaments organised on behalf of the Women's Professional Golfers' Association (WPGA), which later became the Ladies European Tour (LET). There were 17 tournaments on the schedule. There was a major organisational change from the end of the 1982 season, which ended with the future of the tour in doubt after several tournaments were cancelled. Following action in the High Court, the departure of executive director Barry Edwards, who was also responsible for the tour's marketing, was secured, and administration of the tour was taken over by the Professional Golfers' Association (PGA). The new executive director of the WPGA was Colin Snape, who had previously been a director at the PGA. Ladies European Tour
The Ladies European Tour is a professional golf tour for women which was founded in 1978. Most of the players on the tour are European, with members from more than 40 countries internationally. Despite its name, the tour also has tournaments in Africa, Asia, North America and Oceania. The organization is based at Buckinghamshire Golf Club near London in England. Like many British-based sports organisations it is a company limited by guarantee, a legal structure which enables it to focus on maximising returns to its members through prize money, rather than on making profits for investors. Beverly Lewis (golfer)
Beverly Lewis (1947–2019) was a British professional golfer, author, and broadcaster. She was a founding member of the Women's Professional Golf Association (WPGA), later the Ladies European Tour (LET), and became the first female captain of the Professional Golfers' Association (PGA) in the United Kingdom. Early life and education Lewis was born in Essex, England, in 1947. She took up golf at the age of 18, learning the game on a local pitch and putt course. Within four years, she became the Essex Ladies Amateur Champion and joined Thorndon Park Golf Club, where she remained a lifelong member. Muriel Thomson
Muriel Natalie Thomson (born 12 December 1954) is a retired Scottish professional golfer. Thomson was an amateur golfer in Scotland before playing on the Ladies European Tour from 1979 to 1989. During her time on the tour, she won the Ladies European Tour#Order of Merit and seasonal award winners, Order of Merit title in 1980 and 1983 while winning nine tournaments overall. Carol Michelle Walker (born 17 December 1952) is an English professional golfer. Life Walker was born in Leeds, Yorkshire, England. She won the Hovis International in 1972. She turned professional in 1973 and played on the U.S.-based LPGA Tour from 1974 to 1981. Her best finish was a T-2 at the 1976 Jerry Lewis Muscular Dystrophy Classic where she lost a four-player playoff to Sandra Palmer. Walker was a founding member of the Ladies European Tour and won six times on the tour between 1979 and 1984. Dale Reid (20 March 1959 – 8 November 2023) was a Scottish professional golfer. She was one of the most successful players in the history of the Ladies European Tour, with 21 tournament victories. She topped the Order of Merit in 1984 and 1987 and was made a life member of the tour after collecting her 20th title at the 1991 Ford Classic.
