Mid Wales Corporate Joint Committee
The Mid Wales Corporate Joint Committee () is the Corporate Joint Committee for Mid Wales that was established in April 2021 by statutory instruments made under the Local Government and Elections (Wales) Act 2021. It is an indirectly elected body made up of leaders of principal councils and national park authorities in the region. Powers Corporate Joint Committees have powers relating to economic well-being, strategic planning and the development of regional transport policies. They are corporate bodies which can employ staff, hold assets and have dedicated budgets. Principal areas The Mid Wales Corporate Joint Committee covers the two principal areas of Ceredigion and Powys. A Corporate Joint Committee (CJC; ) is a type of local government in Wales, local government institution introduced in Wales by the Local Government and Elections (Wales) Act 2021. History A Local Government and Elections (Wales) Act 2021 became law in January 2021. It contained provisions to reduce the voting age from 18 to 16 for local elections in Wales and to extend the franchise to include eligible foreign nationals. It extended the term of local councillors from four years to five years. The law allows local councils to decide to continue to hold elections under first past the post system or to switch to the single transferable vote system. It created a framework for joint regional coordination between local authorities through the formation of Corporate Joint Committees. County Hall () is a municipal building in Llandrindod Wells, Wales. It is the headquarters of Powys County Council. History Following the implementation of the Local Government Act 1888, which established county councils in every county, it became necessary to find a meeting place for Radnorshire County Council: from an early stage the full county council established a tradition of holding its meetings at the Pump House Hotel on Spa Road East in Llandrindod Wells. However, the county council also needed premises for council officers and their departments and established the "County Buildings" in the High Street at Llandrindod Wells in 1909. The county council then moved their staff to larger offices at the former Gwalia Hotel in Ithon Road in 1950. Llandrindod Wells (; ; ; ) is a town and community (Wales), community in Powys, Wales. It serves as the seat of Powys County Council, and is therefore the administrative centre of Powys. Mid Wales ( or simply ''Y Canolbarth'', meaning "the midlands"), or Central Wales, is a region of Wales, encompassing its midlands, in-between North Wales and South Wales. The Mid Wales Regional Committee of the Senedd covered the unitary authority areas of Ceredigion and Powys and the area of Gwynedd that had previously been the district of Meirionnydd. Ceredigion County Council
Ceredigion County Council () is the governing body for the county of Ceredigion, since 1996 one of the unitary authorities of Wales. The council's main offices are in Aberaeron. History The current council was created on 1 April 1996 under the Local Government (Wales) Act 1994, replacing Ceredigion District Council and also taking over county-level functions in the area from Dyfed County Council, which was abolished. The 1994 act specified that the new authority was to have both an English and a Welsh name: Cardiganshire / Sir Aberteifi.
