Mid-year Rugby Union Internationals
The mid-year rugby union internationals (also known as the summer internationals in Six Nations countries and the winter internationals in SANZAAR countries) are rugby union games contested by men's national teams during World Rugby's international window in July. The window, originally in June, was created in 2008, though matches occurred around this time in earlier years. In 2020 World Rugby moved the window from June to July. Matches in this window are held annually. In general Six Nations teams travel in this window. Usually, Second-tier national teams also have games. British and Irish Lions tours occur in this window every four years. The 2013 British & Irish Lions tour to Australia was a rugby union tour during June and July 2013. The British & Irish Lions played ten matches - a three-Test match (rugby union), test series against Australia national rugby union team, Australia, and matches against the five Australian Super Rugby sides, a Combined New South Wales–Queensland Country team, and a match en route to Australia against the Barbarian F.C., Barbarians. Barbarian Rugby Club
The Barbarian Rugby Club, more commonly known as the French Barbarians, is a rugby union team formed in 1979 and based in France. It was founded as an amateur invitational team modeled on the Barbarian F.C. From the start of the 2017–18 season, the French Barbarians became the official second national team of the French Rugby Federation, which had previously designated either the France national under-20 rugby union team, France U20 side or France A national rugby union team, France A as that team. This decision was reversed in 2019, to allow for the creation of a new second national team as a development side (above the Under 20s team but below the first men's team).
