The Microregion of Birigui () is located on the northwest of São Paulo state, Brazil, and is made up of 18 municipalities. It belongs to the Mesoregion of Araçatuba. Microregion (Brazil)
A microregion () was a legally defined area in Brazil consisting of a group of municipalities. They were abolished in 2017 and replaced by Intermediate and Immediate Geographic Regions. Microregions were grouped together into mesoregions. In theory, Brazilian law provided for member municipalities to cooperate on matters of common interest, but in practice, the divisions were used primarily for statistical purposes by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics. Birigui
Birigui is a city in the state of São Paulo, Brazil. The city is located on the northwest of the state and has 124,883 inhabitants ( IBGE/2020) and 530.9 km2 of area. The name ''Birigui'' comes from the Tupi–Guarani language and means "little fly". It refers to the Lutzomyia fly, very common at the area. The city is known for its children's footwear industry. History As the major cities of the region, Birigui, emerged and grew from the Northwest Railway, built at the beginning of the century. In the beginning was a key in the clearing, located between the kilometers 259 and 261 that in 1908 happened to be a point of stop of locomotives. The town was founded on December 7, 1911 by Mr. Nicolau da Silva Nunes, an entrepreneurial Portuguese native of the Parish of Moutamorta, Trás-os-Montes. Penápolis
Penápolis is a Municipalities of Brazil, municipality in the state of São Paulo (state), São Paulo, Brazil. The population is of 63,757 inhabitants (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics, IBGE/2020). The city has an area of 710.8 km². Historical formation The region was first populated by the ''Crowned Indians'' (or Kaingang or still Caingangue). The first presence of the Brazilian State in the region was, in the end of the 19th century, a military colony in the Salto do Avanhandava, that was nicknamed "Banishment". Glicério
Glicério is a municipality in the state of São Paulo in Brazil. The population is 4,829 (2020 est.) in an area of 273 km2. The elevation is 400 m.
