Micka Brennan
Michael John "Micka" Brennan (29 September 1914 – 29 November 1987) was an Irish hurler who played as a left corner-forward for the Cork senior team. Brennan joined the team during the 1932 championship and subsequently became a regular member of the starting fifteen until his retirement during the 1944 championship. During that time he won two All-Ireland medals, two Munster medals and two National League medals. Brennan was an All-Ireland runner-up on one occasion. At club level Brennan was a one-time county club championship medalist with Sarsfields. Playing career Club Brennan played his club hurling with Sarsfield's and had much success during a lengthy career. Having won a minor championship medal in 1931, Brennan subsequently became a key member of the club's senior team. Sarsfields GAA (Cork)
Sarsfields GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club in Glanmire, County Cork, Ireland. The club, a sister club of Glanmire, is solely concerned with the game of hurling. History Sarsfields GAA Club was established by a group of men, led by Billy O'Neill, in 1894. Named in honour of the Irish Jacobite and soldier Patrick Sarsfield, 1st Earl of Lucan, the club was first formally registered in 1896. Sarsfields claimed their first county honours in 1937, when the Cork JHC was secured, however, there were also Cork SHC final defeats in 1909, 1936, 1940 and 1947. Sarsfields made the SHC breakthrough in 1951 following a 5–08 to 3–07 defeat of Glen Rovers in the final. The club added a second SHC title after a defeat of University College Cork in 1957. A fallow period in terms of success followed for the next 50 years before the club's "golden era". Munster Junior Hurling Championship
The Munster Junior Hurling Championship is a junior "knockout" competition in the game of Hurling played in the province of Munster in Ireland. The series of games are organised by the Munster Council. The winners of the Munster Junior Hurling Championship each year progress to play the other provincial champions for a chance to win the All-Ireland Junior Hurling Championship. Generally, the strong hurling counties have fielded their second team in this competition. In recent years though, they have participated in the Munster Intermediate Hurling Championship instead. The competition has been suspended and is unlikely to be re-established. In the years between 1961 and 1973 Kerry represented Munster in the All-Ireland Junior Hurling Championship. The Galway County Boards of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) () or Galway GAA are one of the 32 county boards in Ireland; they are responsible for Gaelic games in County Galway, and for the Galway county teams. Galway is one of the few dual counties in Ireland, competing in a similar level in both hurling and football codes. The Antrim County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association () or Antrim GAA is one of the 32 county boards of the GAA in Ireland, and is responsible for Gaelic games in County Antrim, Northern Ireland. The Waterford County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) () or Waterford GAA is one of the 32 County board (Gaelic games), county boards of the GAA in Ireland, and is responsible for all levels of Gaelic games in County Waterford. Ted O'Sullivan (hurler)
Ted O'Sullivan (24 February 1920 – 30 July 1968) was an Irish hurler. At club level he played with Midleton, Blackrock, St Finbarr's and Castlemartyr and was also a member of the Cork senior hurling team. Club career Born in Ballinacurra, County Cork, O'Sullivan first played hurling at juvenile and underage levels with the St Enda's club. He enjoyed his first success in 1938 when the club secured the Cork MHC title after a defeat of Seán Clárach's in the final. By that stage O'Sullivan had also joined the Midleton senior team and was full-forward when they suffered a defeat by Glen Rovers in the 1938 final. O'Sullivan spent two seasons with Blackrock after transferring to the club in 1941, before later transferring to St Finbarr's. His tenure with the southside club was a successful one with "the Barr's" claiming consecutive Cork SHC titles in 1942 and 1943. Johnny Quirke
John Quirke (2 May 1911 – 24 August 1983) was an Irish hurler who played as a right corner-forward for the Cork senior team. Quirke made his first appearance for the team during the 1932 championship and was a regular member of the starting fifteen until his retirement after the 1946 championship. During that time, he won four All-Ireland medals, four Munster medals and two National League medals. Quirke was an All-Ireland runner-up on one occasion. Foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) or hoof-and-mouth disease (HMD) is an infectious and sometimes fatal viral disease that primarily affects even-toed ungulates, including domestic and wild bovids. The virus causes a high fever lasting two to six days, followed by blisters inside the mouth and near the hoof that may rupture and cause lameness. FMD has very severe implications for animal farming, since it is highly infectious and can be spread by infected animals comparatively easily through contact with contaminated farming equipment, vehicles, clothing, and feed, and by domestic and wild predators. Paddy Phelan
Patrick Phelan (16 September 1910 – 7 December 1971) was an Irish hurler who played as a left wing-back for the Kilkenny senior team. Born in Freshford, County Kilkenny, Phelan arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of twenty-one when he first linked up with the Kilkenny senior team. He made his debut in the 1931 championship. Phelan went on to play a key part for more than a decade, and won four All-Ireland medals, eight Leinster medals and one National Hurling League medal. Phelan was an All-Ireland runner-up on four occasions. Phelan represented the Leinster inter-provincial team for a remarkable thirteen years, winning four Railway Cup medals in 1932, 1933, 1936 and 1941.
