Mick Kennedy (Limerick Hurler)
Michael Kennedy (1911 – 14 May 1977) was an Irish hurler who played as a full-back for the Limerick senior team. Kennedy joined the team during the 1933 championship and was a regular member of the starting fifteen until his retirement almost a decade later. During that time he won three All-Ireland SHC medals, four Munster SHC medals and five National Hurling League medals. Kennedy was an All-Ireland SHC runner-up on one occasion. Young Irelands GAA (Limerick)
Young Irelands GAA was a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in Limerick, Ireland that field both underage and adult male sports teams. The primary club sport was hurling, but the teams also played football. Founded in 1898, Young Irelands declined in the 1980s and disbanded in 1991. Formation On 16 November 1898, Young Irelands GAA was established as a boys underage hurling club in Limerick. The first meeting was held at the headquarters of the Young Ireland Society. The club was named after the Young Ireland movement. The attendees at that meeting were Johnny Sweeny, Michael McInerney, James Fitzgerald, Jack Murphy, Pat Cowhey, Jim O’Connell, Paddy O’Farrell, Frank O’Shaughnessy, and Jim Gleeson. National Hurling League
The National Hurling League is an annual Inter county, inter-county hurling competition featuring teams from Ireland and England. Founded in 1925 by the Gaelic Athletic Association, it operates on a system of promotion and relegation within the league system. The league has 35 teams divided into five divisions, with seven teams in each division. Promotion and relegation between these divisions is a central feature of the league. Although primarily a competition for Irish teams, teams from England – currently Lancashire GAA, Lancashire, London GAA, London and Warwickshire – also take part, while in the past New York GAA, New York also fielded a team for the latter stages of the league.
