Michikan Lake
Michikan Lake is a lake in Kenora District in northwestern Ontario, Canada. It is in the Hudson Bay drainage basin. The main inflow is an unnamed river at the west. A secondary inflow is an unnamed river at the north. The major outflow, at the southeast, is an unnamed channel to the Severn River, which flows to Hudson Bay. The lake is the home of the Bearskin Lake First Nation main settlements, (Bearskin Lake settlement) which were relocated from Bearskin Lake to the southwest in the 1930s, and is partly encompassed by their Bearskin Lake Indian Reserve. Kenora District
Kenora District is a district and census division in Northwestern Ontario, Canada. The district seat is the City of Kenora. It is geographically the largest division in Ontario: at , it covers 38 percent of the province's area, making it larger than Newfoundland and Labrador, and slightly smaller than Sweden or roughly the land size of California. Kenora District also has the lowest population density of any of Ontario's census divisions (it ranks 37th out of 50 by total population). A drainage basin is an area of land in which all flowing surface water converges to a single point, such as a river mouth, or flows into another body of water, such as a lake or ocean. Severn River (northern Ontario)
The Severn River is a river in northern Ontario. The northern Ontario river has its headwaters near the western border of the province. From the head of the Black Birch River, the Severn River is long, Its drainage basin area is , a small portion of which is in Manitoba. Its source is Deer Lake and flows northeasterly into Severn Lake, then by a second section to Hudson Bay where it ends at Fort Severn. The First Nation communities of Sandy Lake, Bearskin Lake, and Fort Severn are located along the river. These were formed at the sites of former trading posts built when the Severn River was a prominent river during the fur trade era. Bearskin First Nation's total registered population was 900, of which their on-reserve population was 461. Three settlements make up the Bearskin Lake First Nation. Originally located on Bearskin Lake to the southwest, their main community moved to its present site on Michikan Lake ("Fish Trap Lake") in the 1930s and is accessible only by air from Bearskin Lake Airport or winter road. Two other unnamed inflows are at the south (east of the Morrison River) and southeast.
