Michelle Rogers (judoka)
Michelle Rogers (born 21 January 1976 in Salford) is a British judoka, who competed at two Olympic Games. Judo career Rogers came to prominence after becoming the champion of Great Britain, winning the heavyweight division at the British Judo Championships in 1993. She would win an additional six British titles from 1999 to 2006 at either heavyweight of half-heavyweight. In 1996, she was selected to represent Great Britain at the Olympics, competing in the heavyweight event at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta. In 1996, she also won a bronze medal at the 1996 European Judo Championships in The Hague. The following year she won a silver medal at the 1997 European Judo Championships. In 2001, she won another bronze medal at the 2001 European Judo Championships in Paris before winning the -78kg gold medal at the 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester, defeating Jo Melen of Wales in the final. Judo At The 2008 Summer Olympics – Women's 78 Kg
The women's 78 kg (also known as ''half-heavyweight'') tournament in the judo at the 2008 Summer Olympics was held on August 14 at the Beijing Science and Technology University Gymnasium. A total of 21 women competed in this event, limited to jūdōka with a body weight of less than 78 kilograms. Preliminary rounds started at 12:00 Noon CST. Repechage finals, semifinals, bouts for bronze medals and the final were held at 18:00pm CST. This event was the second-heaviest of the women's judo weight classes, limiting competitors to a maximum of 78 kilograms of body mass. Like all other judo events, bouts lasted five minutes. If the bout was still tied at the end, it was extended for another five-minute, sudden-death period; if neither judoka scored during that period, the match is decided by the judges. Judo At The 1996 Summer Olympics – Women's +72 Kg
These are the results of the women's +72 kg (also known as ''heavyweight'') competition in judo at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia. A total of 20 women competed in this event, limited to jūdōka whose body weight was more than 72 kilograms. Competition took place on July 20 of 1996 in the Georgia World Congress Center. Two single-elimination pools, with winner of each pool advanced to the final. All judoka losing to the finalists in each pool advanced to repêchage pools, with the winners of the repêchage pools earning bronze medals. Results The gold and silver medalists were determined by the final match of the main single-elimination bracket. Repechage The losing semifinalists as well as those judoka eliminated in earlier rounds by the four semifinalists of the main bracket advanced to the repechage.
