Michelle Donelan
Michelle Emma May Elizabeth Donelan (born 8 April 1984) is a British former politician who served as Secretary of State for Science, Innovation and Technology from July 2023 to July 2024, having previously served in the position from February to April 2023 before being temporarily replaced during her maternity leave. A member of the Conservative Party (UK), Conservative Party, Donelan also held three other cabinet positions from 2020 to 2023 under Boris Johnson, Liz Truss and Rishi Sunak. She served as the Member of Parliament (United Kingdom), Member of Parliament (MP) for Chippenham (UK Parliament constituency), Chippenham in Wiltshire from 2015 to 2024. Dame Andrea Marie Jenkyns (born 16 June 1974) is a British politician who has been the Mayor of Greater Lincolnshire since May 2025. Whitley is a village and civil parish in Cheshire, England, surrounded by Antrobus, Comberbach, Little Leigh and Dutton. It also borders Daresbury in Halton borough as well as Hatton and Stretton in Warrington borough. Sarah Gibson (born April 1966) is a British Liberal Democrat politician who has been the Member of Parliament (MP) for Chippenham since the 2024 general election. Before her election to parliament, Gibson was elected to Wiltshire Council in 2017 and 2021. Early life and career Gibson attended the comprehensive Ralph Allen School. Duncan John Hames (born 16 June 1977) is a Director of Policy at Transparency International UK and a former Liberal Democrat politician. He was the Member of Parliament (MP) for the Chippenham constituency in Wiltshire from 2010 to 2015. Whip (politics)
A whip is an official of a political party whose task is to ensure party discipline (that members of the party vote according to the party platform rather than their constituents, conscience vote, individual conscience or donors) in a legislature. Whips are the party's "enforcers". They work to ensure that their fellow political party legislators attend voting sessions and vote according to their party's official policy. Members who vote against party policy may "lose the whip", being expelled from the party. The term is said to be taken from the "wikt:whipper-in, whipper-in" during a hunt, who tries to prevent hounds from wandering away from a hunting pack. The term may more reasonably have been taken from the practice of "keeping discipline" in slaves by cracking a leather whip over their heads.
