Michelle Bonello
Michelle Bonello (born March 10, 1985) is a women's ice hockey player who has also competed for the Canada women's national inline hockey team, having participated at seven FIRS Inline Hockey World Championships With regards to Bonello's women's ice hockey career, she has competed at the university level with the Mercyhurst Lakers women's ice hockey program in the NCAA. Acquired by the Toronto Furies in the 2010 CWHL Draft, the first in league history, she would capture the Clarkson Cup in 2014. Playing career Ice hockey Bonello joined the Mercyhurst Lakers in 2003. As a freshman, she played in all 36 games. In her freshman year, she had five goals and 12 assists for 17 points. Her four power play goals tied for first on the Lakers. Defense (ice Hockey)
Defence or defense (in American English) in ice hockey is a player position that is primarily responsible for preventing the opposing team from scoring. They are often referred to as defencemen, D, D-men or blueliners (the latter a reference to the blue line in ice hockey which represents the boundary of the offensive zone; defencemen generally position themselves along the line to keep the puck in the zone). 1st Canadian Women's Hockey League All-Star Game
The 1st Canadian Women's Hockey League All-Star Game, took place on December 13, 2014 at Air Canada Centre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Admission was free, and 6,850 people attended the game. The game aired live on Sportsnet One in Canada, as well as on the NHL Network in the United States. The event featured three 15-minute periods which aired on television, and had a Skills Competition following the game. This edition of the All-Star Game featured a "fantasy draft" format akin to the NHL All-Star Game in order to determine the rosters. Fan balloting determined the team captains, which were goaltender Charline Labonte from the Montreal Stars, and rookie forward Jessica Campbell of the Calgary Inferno. Jenelle Kohanchuk
Jenelle Kohanchuk (born October 3, 1990) was an ice hockey forward for the Boston University Terriers women's ice hockey program. She would compete for the Toronto Furies squad that captured the 2014 Clarkson Cup. She is a current player for Team Bauer (Boston) for the PWHPA (2021-22). Playing career Kohanchuk participated in the 2006 Mac’s Midget Tournament with Balmoral Hall. The following year, she competed in the tournament with Notre Dame. She won a bronze medal with Manitoba at the 2007 National Women’s Under-18 Championship. In the same year, she was part of the Female Midget AAA Hockey League championship with the Notre Dame Hounds. 2014 Clarkson Cup
The 2014 Clarkson Cup is a women's ice hockey tournament that was contested in Markham, Ontario to determine the champion of the Canadian Women's Hockey League from March 19 to March 22, 2014. The Toronto Furies defeated the Boston Blades by a 1-0 tally in overtime to claim their first title. The tournament was played at Markham Centennial Centre. With the victory, Natalie Spooner became the first woman in hockey history to claim the gold medal in the Winter Games and the Clarkson Cup in the same year. 2009–10 CWHL Season
The 2009–10 CWHL season was the third season in the history of the Canadian Women's Hockey League. the Montreal Stars repeated as regular season champions for the third straight year. Sabrina Harbec of the Stars won the Angela James Bowl as the top scorer and was voted the league's most valuable player, the CWHL Top Forward and a CWHL First Team All-Star. Teammate Annie Guay was voted CWHL Top Defender while Laura Hosier was voted CWHL Top Goaltender. Danielle Blanchard was voted CWHL Outstanding Rookie. 2011–12 CWHL Season
The 2011–12 CWHL season was the fifth in league history. Regular season play begun on October 22, 2011, as the defending champion Montreal Stars hosted the Brampton Thunder. The league expanded from five teams to six as Team Alberta (CWHL) joined the league for competitive play. The 2012 Clarkson Cup in Niagara Falls was also contested between the Stars and Thunder, with Montreal winning its second consecutive title. 2010–11 CWHL Season
The 2010–11 CWHL season is the fourth in the history of the Canadian Women's Hockey League but was considered a reboot for the league after a major restructuring as an organization. For the season, the league was to run on a budget of $500,000 and players will pay for their own equipment. As part of the restructuring, officially, all five CWHL teams in the 2010–11 season were referred to by the league as their locations without any monikers and were considered "new" teams. However, since most of the locations had teams in the previous seasons, they were still commonly referenced as their monikers. The league returned to the team name usage for the following season. Alyssa Baldin (born February 15, 1990) is an elite women's ice hockey player who has also competed for the Canada women's national inline hockey team. With regards to Baldin's women's ice hockey career, she has competed at the university level in both the NCAA and CIS. Jackie Jarrell
Jackie Jarrell (born May 16, 1985) is a former women's ice hockey player and current member of the Canada women's national inline hockey team, having debuted in 2006. Playing career Ice hockey Having played minor hockey with a pair of boys teams, the Belleville Bobcats (AA level) and the Quinte Red Devils (AAA level), she would join the Durham Lightning of the original NWHL at 16 years young. In addition, Jarrell would win a gold medal at the 2003 Canada Winter Games, playing for Team Ontario. Jarrell joined the Mercyhurst Lakers women's ice hockey program in the autumn of 2003. Amassing 19 points in her freshman campaign (2003–04), she would miss the 2005–06 season due to concussion. Samantha Shirley (born May 2, 1983) is a former women's ice hockey player and member of the Canada women's national inline hockey team, appearing at eight FIRS Inline Hockey World Championships. Playing career Ice hockey Shirley joined the Mercyhurst Lakers women's ice hockey program in the autumn of 2002. Tying for the team lead in the 2002–03 Mercyhurst Lakers women's ice hockey season, Shirley captured the College Hockey America Rookie of the Year Award. Serving as team captain for the 2005–06 Mercyhurst Lakers women's ice hockey season, gracing the ice in all 37 games. Her 11 goals ranked fourth while her 26 points ranked fifth on the Lakers.
