''Sulfur'' was an American rock ensemble formed by Michele Amar in New York City in 1991. It was originally an outlet for Amar's solo work until it expanded drastically with the inclusion of seven members and a number of additional side personnel. History Early activity (1991–1994) Sulfur's beginnings can be traced to a musical project began in 1991 by French musician Michele Amar, who had started composing and recording music under the name Virus. Having moved to New York in 1985, Amar had already built a reputation on the scene for working under producer Roli Mosimann and engineering albums for Celtic Frost, That Petrol Emotion and The Young Gods. That Petrol Emotion
That Petrol Emotion was a London-based rock band formed in 1984 by musicians from Northern Ireland with an American vocalist. They recorded five albums between 1986 and 1994, exploring an eclectic fusion of indie rock, post-punk, garage rock and dance-punk, which anticipated both the dance-pop era of the early 1990s and the post-punk revival of the early 2000s. They were described by ''Rolling Stone'' magazine as "The Clash crossed with Creedence", and by the ''New York Times'' as "a youthful Rolling Stones" crossed with a "revved-up Television". The New Music Seminar (NMS) originated in New York City as an event dedicated to education and the celebration of music throughout history, taking place each June from 1980-1995. After several years, the annual NMS was relaunched in 2009. In 2012, NMS hosted the first New York Music Festival in collaboration with the New York City Mayor's Office of Media & Entertainment declaration of the city’s first New York Music Week. Missing Foundation
Missing Foundation Is an industrial music and performance art project active in the late 1980s - present and led by Peter Missing. Their live shows were notorious for sparking civil disobedience (including the occasional riot) and causing serious damage to venues at which they performed. The group was also infamous for their "The Party's Over" graffiti of an upside-down martini glass, and was heavily involved in the Tompkins Square Park Riot in August 1988.
