Michel Cormier (linesman)
Michel Cormier Jr. (born May 28, 1974) is a National Hockey League linesman, who wears uniform number 76. He made his debut during the 2003–04 NHL season, and has officiated 1,370 regular season games and 99 playoff games, including one Stanley Cup Finals appearance, . Prior to the start of his professional career, he worked a Memorial Cup and a World Junior Ice Hockey Championship. Career Growing up, Cormier played junior ice hockey before ending his career with the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL). However, after ending his playing career he wished to return as a linesman. After only a few years refereeing, Cormier was hired by the QMJHL as a linesman. Memorial Cup
The Memorial Cup () is the national championship of the Canadian Hockey League (CHL), a consortium of three Junior ice hockey, major junior ice hockey leagues operating in Canada and parts of the United States. It is a four-team round-robin tournament played among the champions of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) and Western Hockey League (WHL), and a host team, which alternates on an annual basis between the three member leagues. In ice hockey, an official is responsible for enforcing the rules and maintaining order. On-ice officials are present on the ice during the game, and traditionally wear a shirt with black and white vertical stripes. The National Hockey League (NHL) currently employs four on-ice officials in each game—two referees and two linespersons (also known as linesmen). Referees are identified by their red or orange armbands. They are responsible for the general supervision of the game, assess penalties, and conduct face-offs at the beginning of each period and after a goal is scored. IIHF World Junior Championship
The IIHF World Junior Championship (WJC), sometimes referred to as World Juniors, is an annual event organized by the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) for national under-20 ice hockey teams from around the world.
