Jan Michalski Prize for Literature (French: Prix Jan Michalski) is a Swiss literary prize for any work of fiction or non-fiction published anywhere in the world in any language. It is meant to recognize authors from around the world and world literature in general. The jury is multicultural and multilingual in composition. The award was launched October 2009 and the first winner was announced November 2010. The winner receives . The authors of finalists are invited for a three-month period of residence in the Maison de l'écriture. Gerhard Michalski
Gerhard Michalski (25 June 1917 – 22 February 1946) was a German Luftwaffe military aviator and wing commander during World War II. As a fighter ace, he is credited with 73 aerial victories in 652 missions, of which 59 victories were achieved over the Western Front including 13 four-engine bombers, and 14 over the Eastern Front. He was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross with Oak Leaves, the highest award in the military and paramilitary forces of Nazi Germany during World War II. Early life and career Michalski was born on 25 June 1917 in Augsdorf in the Province of Saxony of the German Empire. In 1936, he volunteered for military service in the Luftwaffe and was promoted to ''Leutnant'' in 1938. World War II Michalski joined 6. Carl Michalski
Carl Michalski (18 January 1911 – 11 December 1998) was a German composer and conductor, focused on operetta and dance music. Career Born in Bochum, Michalski was a student of Leopold Reichwein. He worked as the Kapellmeister at the Schauspielhaus Bochum from 1932 to 1934. He was conductor of the Münchener Tanzrundfunkorchester, an orchestra dedicated to swing and dance music, of the broadcaster Reichssender München from 1934 to 1938. Simultaneously, he worked from 1934 at the Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz in Munich as arranger, conductor and composer. He collaborated with Bernhard Stimmler, composing the operetta ''Gitta'', which premiered at the Gärtnerplatztheater on 16 May 1942, subtitled ''A Journey into the Blue''. Johannes Michalski
Johannes Michalski ( – November 4, 2019) was a Belgian-born American painter. A double amputee, he painted by holding the brush with his mouth. Early life Born on 10 December 1936 in Vucht, Belgium to Anton Michalski and Cecelia Walchzak. He was the youngest of three siblings, raised by a single mother after losing his father to suicide at the age of two. Johannes spent many of his childhood years in orphanages suffering lots of physical and emotional abuse because of his mother's struggle to find work and an environment safe for him and his siblings which resulted from war that happened in Europe as at the time. He lost both of his arms at the age of ten in an electrocution accident when he grabbed a power line with his hands by mistake and fell from the electrical pole. Clemens Michalski
Clemens F. Michalski (April 21, 1902 – October 20, 1977) was an American machinist and politician from Milwaukee, Wisconsin who represented the 12th Milwaukee County Assembly district (the 12th and 14th Wards of the City of Milwaukee), succeeding Democrat Max Galasinski (who was successfully pursuing a seat in the Wisconsin State Senate).
