Michalis Karchimakis
Michalis Karchimakis (, born on 9 November 1957 in Siteia, Crete, Greece) is a Greek politician of the Panhellenic Socialist Movement (PASOK). Since 9 October 2009 to 17 May 2012 he has been the Deputy Minister for Agricultural Development and Food, and from 14 September 2010 General Secretary of PASOK. Life Michalis Karchimakis was born on 9 November 1957 in Siteia, Crete. He graduated from the Law School of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens with a major in Political Sciences, and completed his studies with a Post-Graduate degree in Regional Development at Panteion University. Michalis Karchimakis became a member of the PA.SO.K. upon its foundation in 1974. He was firstly elected as a Member of the Hellenic Parliament in 1996, in his home prefecture of Lasithi, but lost his seat after an appeal in the electoral court. Lasithi
Lasithi () is the easternmost regional unit on the island of Crete, to the east of Heraklion. Its capital is Agios Nikolaos, the other major towns being Ierapetra and Sitia. The mountains include the Dikti in the west and the Thrypti in the east. The Sea of Crete lies to the north and the Libyan Sea to the south. To the east of the village of Elounda lies the island of Spinalonga, formerly a Venetian fortress and a leper colony. On the foot of Mount Dikti lies the Lasithi Plateau, famous for its windmills. Vai is well known for its datepalm forest. Thanks to its beaches and its mild climate year-long, Lasithi attracts many tourists. Mass tourism is served by places like Vai, Agios Nikolaos and the island of Chrissi. PASOK Politicians
The Panhellenic Socialist Movement (, ), known mostly by its acronym PASOK (; , ), is a social-democratic political party in Greece. Until 2012 it was one of the two major parties in the country, along with New Democracy, its main political rival. After a decade of poor electoral outcomes, PASOK has retained its position as one of the main Greek political parties and is currently the second largest party in the Greek Parliament. Following the collapse of the Greek military dictatorship of 1967–1974, PASOK was founded on 3 September 1974 as a socialist party.
