Michael Zimmerman (born 1953) is an American biologist and former Vice President for Academic Affairs / Provost at The Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington. He previously served in a number of academic and administrative positions including Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana, and Dean of the College of Letters and Science at the University of Wisconsin–Oshkosh for 14 years. Before moving to Wisconsin, Zimmerman spent 12 years at Oberlin College as a professor of biology and associate dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. Prior to that he worked at the College of William & Mary as well as Hampshire College. Zimmerman holds an A.B. degree in Geography from the University of Chicago and a Ph.D. in Evolutionary Biology and Ecology from Washington University in St. Louis. Zimmermann worked as a historian with the city of Essen (directing an exhibition project on Essen under National Socialist rule), and was an assistant professor at Bochum University; he was also a visiting professor at the Institute for Contemporary History at the University of Vienna. Michael D. Zimmerman (born 1943) is a prominent attorney, a former justice of the Utah Supreme Court, and a Zen teacher at Two Arrows Zen (TAZ) located in Salt Lake City, Utah. His legal career is notable in a number of ways. Zimmerman was the first graduate from the University of Utah Law School to clerk for the U.S. Supreme Court, working for Chief Justice Warren E. Burger. He was then an early hire at O'Melvany & Meyers LLP in Los Angeles, where he worked for prominent lawyers including former Secretary of State Warren Christopher. After returning to Utah, following the death of his father, Zimmerman worked as a professor at the University of Utah Law School, coaching the moot court team in written and oral appellate advocacy for half a dozen years. He later became special counsel to Utah’s Governor Scott M. Matheson, and was a participant in both public policy advocacy and decision making. Michael John Zimmerman (born May 19, 1970) is an American former professional tennis player. In both 1991 and 1992 he earned Ivy League Player of the Year and ITA All-American honors. In 1993, Zimmerman was a men's doubles gold medalist at the 1993 Maccabiah Games in Israel. Biography Zimmerman grew up in Great Neck, New York, attended Great Neck North High School,and was coached by his uncle Bob Litwin. He played varsity tennis for Harvard University and was a member of four successive Ivy League championship winning teams, from 1989 to 1992. In both 1991 and 1992 he earned Ivy League Player of the Year and ITA All-American honors. As a junior, he was ranked as high as seventh in the U.S. and No. 1 in the East. In 1993, Zimmerman was a men's doubles gold medalist at the 1993 Maccabiah Games (with Giora Payes) in Israel. Zimmerman reached a best singles world ranking of 349 on the professional tour.
